Hi Freedomseeker, I love your name. You came to the right place to find your freedom too. As you prepare to quit, read everything here that you can, do the program, get a basket of quit tools together, like candy, gum, straws, etc etc. Plan ahead. Try to keep yourself in a positive frame of mind as much as possible because it really does help. Post here and post often, we all have done it, so we understand the ups and downs and we are here to help. You can do it, every try is an experience and we learn from it. You know the saying "Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again!"

It is okay to be afraid. We all were, anyway I was. The point is set a quit date, get your stuff all ready for the quit. Clean clothes, new tooth brush, maybe a new water bottle, so sugar free candy, new walking shoes. Then go for it. All you have to do is not light up. It is hard for some (me) and others seem to do pretty well with it. If you smoke, you set a new quit date and start all over again. As long as you never give up on quitting you will win the battle. Welcome SSC.

Thank you, Jazz, Karren, Rock, Cat and all the others who have already given me support. Bob, I also smoked for 50 years. Penitent, I'm glad I remind you of someone who was successful. I feel as if I 'know' many of you. Cat, I had better have a pedicure! That can be one of my rewards when the time comes. Note I am saying 'when', not 'if'.

I'm so glad that I decided to start posting. Support in advance is going to help a lot and you guys are all so warm and welcoming. I'm almost ready to pick my date.

I will just say, life as a non smoker is so fabulous when you get there, sure its a little tough and trying at the start but that soon gets easier.

You are taking an excellent first step Freedomseeker. Keep reading and working your way through the program. When quitting the more you prepare the better.

Keep posting your thoughts, we are a big family here and we love to hear from everyone.

Try not to worry about your last quit attempt that didn't work out. Often it takes a few times before a quit sticks. The important thing is you brushed yourself off and back at it again! You can do it, post your quit meter when ready.
