I'm working up to it....

The view from here is fantastic freedomseeker.....

I smoked 50 years.  Most of those at 2 packs a day.  Was I scared and worried when I Quit??......yep, sure was.  I learned it is the addict inside me that made me feel  sad and scared and dictated how I lived.  Once I realized that I got mad.  It became easier then.  Getting the control of "Me" back was and is one of the hardest and MOST rewarding things I have done.
You'll get mad when you're ready.
We'll be here to help...........

Welcome, Freedomseeker.....
Like you, I thought about life without smokes for quite some time.  Started thinking and looking at options.  Finally I had enough and declared war on January 19, 2009.

You take the time you need and do what you must to prepare for battle.  In the end, You will be the determining factor that changes you from a Freedomseeker to a Freedomtaker.

You can do this,

Dave

Hi FS,

Reading your well-contructed, easy-to-read introductory posts reminds me of someone who came here some time before you. She was someone who arrived with a shroud of trepidation similar to that which you portray. I can tell you that that lady grasped the nettle and will be 5 years quit on the 28th of this month. No turning back! It worked for her and it can work for you too!

I always mantain that for one to be successful at this game, it is imperative that your desire to be quit must outweigh your desire to smoke. If that is true you will give yourself every opportunity to succeed. With that in place you can pick your date and get going with the wonderful support and advice from this extraordinary community. Their support will help you through the difficult times along the way and the number of difficulties you encounter on your journey will be greatly reduced if you can maintain a positive mindset. Remember, being happy and positive is a choice!

It is there for you; if you want it, take it!

Good Luck
Penitent

Thank you Marivi - you are the 1st to respond and I appreciate your support.

I have been searching for a 'quit video' and haven't found one yet nor have I come up with a signature I am happy with.  But.. I'm still finding my way in here and was so pleased that someone made me feel welcome.  I know you have been around for awhile and have done well.  Hope I can keep up with the example you have set when I soon make the commitment.

Thanks again

Hi Freedomseeker!
Welcome to SSC!
Fear is the number one obstacle . Most people don't quit because they are afraid of failing or afraid of losing their best friend!
Well, I want to tell you that neither one of those two is true! You are not losing your best friend, you are breaking apart from your worst enemy! And the smoking cessation is not an event, it is a process.
And every quit is different. Some try several times until they stay quit; and others try it once. The average attempt an ex-smoker makes is 7. So don't beat yourself. You are fine. You have a better understanding of your addiction.
I will strongly recommend you the Allen Carr Book. He talks about fear and it will help you a lot!
Also I recommend you to go trough my program, and educate about this nasty addiction. The better prepared you are,the easiest will be to stay smober.
Also discuss with your doctor if he recommends some kind of NRT. I used Chantix and I owe my quit to this forum and Chantix.
Jump in. you have nothing to lose, and a lot of things to gain.
See you soon
Marivi

This is my 1st post and , though I have been inspired by what I have read here, I am still afraid to commit after failing so recently.  I think you are a wonderful group and I will continue to 'lurk' until I can say that I have actually made my restart toward being smoke free.  Thank you for getting me this far!
