Hello MissConduct First of all congratulations on 6 days smoke free. They call it hell week for a reason. Being agitated is common. You're going through some big changes now. I know in the early days it didn't take much to set me off. I remember in one of my earlier quits that I threw a total temper tantrum breaking stuff. I don't even remember what the reason was now. We have to treat ourselves well and with rewards as we're in uncharted territory now. Remember H.A.L.T. Try not to get to Hungry , Angry , Lonely or Tired. Keep a check on these 4 things. Know your triggers. 6 days is fantastic. I wouldn't have gone 6 minutes at times. Keep going right on through and you'll be able to do this. You're the most important person here and have the ability to choose how you react to any given situation. You've chosen not to smoke. Excellent.  breather 197 Addict 0

Well it's been 6 days, cravings are still here, but are minimal. I still find that I am very agitated tho. Little things that goes wrong set me off where normally they wouldn't. Anyone else like this or used to be like this? Does it go away? lol

I used sugar free gum to keep occupied.. and it worked great in dealings with some of the hard cravings over the first couple of weeks.  You can get angry and chomp away at it.  Great for car rides.  I had a lot of success with gum, of course with ice water, etc.  Just something that worked for me, and no, I am not a gum salesman!

Miss Conduct,

Prepare, prepare, prepare!  Healthy snacks that are already prepared can help you with this boredom.  Make "grab and "go" snacks and do just that..GO!

The weather is getting better, the evenings and week-ends nicer, so get out and walk for the fun of it!  Visit your neighbour, have them over for cards, read a book or go to bed early!

Prepare yourself!

Good news, I had a beer today (which always led me to a cigarette) and I didn't even crave one, which is extremely surprising for myself. Any suggestions on how to NOT eat when your bored when you want a smoke?

MissConduct,

Great news on getting through day 1! Amazing!

Starting healthy habits early and your quit will make those cravings easier to handle and will make the benefits of your quit successful! Keep up the great work!

Members, any other advice for MissConduct? What did you choose to snack on instead of smoking? Please share!

MissConduct, glad to hear you are doing well.  The cravings will go away, I promise.  Are you drinking lots of iced water?  That really helped me with the cravings, and it helped flush the toxins out of my system.  Carrot sticks were my best friends during the early days of my quit!  You are doing awesome!  Keep saying N.O.P.E. (not one puff ever) when ever you have a crave, and if it gets really tough, post here and wait for 5 responses!  By that time the cravings will have gone away!  We're all rooting for you!

Thanks everyone! It's been 1 day and about 2hrs, since I had my last cigarette, and I am doing very well, still have cravings. But the good thing is I'm not eating when I'm bored (which what I was concerned about..lol) If I can just get the cravings to go away, I'll be good :)

Hi Miss Conduct and welcome- you have been given lots of great advice below, so I will just say that when I first quit and started exercising my breathing was shocking, now its much much better. I feel the damage I have done after 37 yrs is irrepairable to a point, but there has been a marked improvement. So, it will get better in time- let us know how it goes wont you??

It sounds like you have a great reason to quit MissConduct!

Your clumsiness could be linked with carbon monoxide withdrawal. It gives a sense of being in "another dimension." It can include changes in distance and space perception, a floating feeling, and a total lack of concentration. Remember that carbon monoxide is a deadly poison - it is a good thing to get out of your system.

How long will this last? The first few weeks after quitting.

Tips to help: Plan your workload to account for your temporary lack of concentration. Avoid additional stress during the first few weeks.

If you have a symptom that persists or seems worse than you expected, you should immediately consult a doctor. Its possible that your smoking has been masking symptoms of some illness, and when you stop smoking the symptoms abruptly become noticeable.

If you are interested in the benefits of quitting check out the education section for tons of great information!
