Welcome to the SSC Shico and congratulations on deciding to kick the habit!

We strongly encourage you to prepare for your quit using the program. Quitting smoking is not only a habit, it's an addiction. This program is going to help you plan how to deal with cravings and more importantly teach you how to replace this old habit with a new one.

You'll also need to put into place a reward system. It should have three components: small one for after each craving, medium for the end of each smoke-free day and a bigger one for the end of each smoke-free week

Start reading through the forums, you'll quickly realize that many have felt just as you do now and they are now non-smokers. You'll also be able to find a lot of tips and tricks to help you along the way.

Good luck & check back soon!

Shico, welcome to the SSC!  I'll add my two cents to the wonderful advice you've already been given!  First, congratulations on making the decision to quit smoking.  I also went cold turky.  I went through "my program" so I was prepared for this quit.  Preparation is key to success!  I also added my quit meter to my postings from "my profile" so I could see my numbers add up daily.  I drank TONS of iced water to flush the toxins out of my system and help fight the cravings.  Carrot sticks, celery, straw, lollipops kept my mouth and my hands busy.  I through out all ashtrays, lighters, etc. in my house.  I cleaned my car and my house to get rid of the any smoke smell.  I read almost every post here at SSC.  I really liked using the search feature to look for topics affecting me.  I posted alot as I was given so much wonderful advice from everybody here.  Oh, I set up a reward program to celebrate each passed craving with a small reward, each smoke free day with a medium reward, and each smoke free week with a larger reward.  Taking my dog for a walk was my daily reward as I was getting exercise, taking in all the wonderful smells of the world without the icky scent of tobacco.  Just remember that this quit is all about YOU!  Treat yourself like royalty!  We're all rooting for your success!
