After I had started smoking again after my 2 year quit, I had not told my wife. Yes, imagine the trouble I got into a few months later when she smelled smoke on me. Busted! I used to smoke in my car (my wife is usually not in there), and would rush it to a car wash when she wanted to use the car for an outing. Before I would come home, I would hid cologne and toothpaste in my car so I could get rid of the smell! The crazy things the smokes will make you do!

I never was a closet smoker, but I didn't brag about it ether. One day we found a HUGE tick on the dog, we were grossed out and upset and in a state of emergency over this tick. My father yells "Hurry, Angie go get me a cigarette and we will burn it off!" I went running for my purse, and as I reached inside I thought... BUSTED! Thats how I knew my parents knew I was smoking.
***Just to let you know we did NOT burn the tick or the dog... we used tweezers.

I used to do the same thing. My parents smoked so it was easy to hide it I thought because the house smelled anyway. I knew I was busted though when one day my Dad asked if he could borrow a cigarette because he had run out. So he knew. I have been a closet smoker the last couple of years trying to hide it from most people hence the mints, cologne etc. The other day I gave my daughter a great big hug and it was so nice not worrying about whether I smelled or not.

Joyce, yes, I used to have bottles of cologne in my car, in my briefcase, etc. to cover up any smoke smells. I guess we all have our secrets! What a wonderful reward you have planned! My dog and cat love 1000 thread count sheets. Just don't let yours get spoiled in the new bed! Congratulations on your success, and I'm so happy the urge passed in 10-15 seconds!

Rock - that is too funny!! Belief it or not if I had company coming, I used my $60 bottle of perfume carefully sprayed whereever they might me!!! Course, I am also recoverying from another substance (four years sober) so hiding things was both old hat and such a weary pain in the arse! Day four for me today almost on the down side of Hell Week. I found myself annoyed I couldn't smoke last night?? Annoyed? That was a strange emotion I thought but I just let it be - it passed in 10 to 15 seconds. My reward for hell week is a new full sized bed! Right now I only have a twin and with 2 little dogs and a cat - I definitely need a better bed. This will be a great Easter!

After a previous failed quit, I also used mints , body spray, hand sanatizer, etc. to mask the smell. When I came home from work one day, my hubby got next to me and sniffed me.!? I thought he could smell the smoke!
He then asked if I had been drinking!?
It then dawned on me that the Purell hand cleaner was almost all alcohol!!!
Geesh---I'd almost preferred he thought I was drinking mid-day than smoking! LOL!

Oh the memories. When I started smoking my grandmother(who was a chain smoker) moved in with us. So I would smoke out my room window and then "blame" my grandma for the smell. I came clean to my mom awhile back and she said she knew, because I smelled. After that like Sparky I've had a ritual of spraying body spray, eating mints, etc to mask that smell. Keep the quit!!!
