costly poisoning

Deb, I mean Madame Director, CONGRATULATIONS on your promotion!  How wonderful for you!  And how dare that pesky nicodemon try to ruin your day!  Yeah, In Ohio, I was used to paying $5 a pack.  I'm guessing they are over $6 now with the new tax.  I saw them at a pharmacy (yes, a healthy national chain pharmacy has ciggies lined up behind the cash register) here in San Jose yesterday for $8.50 a pack.  I don't know how much the increase in CA state sales tax combined with the increase in ciggie tax came together, but boy is that EXPENSIVE!!!  I hope SSC brought in extra server space!  I'm guessing the ranks will start growing once people realize the increased cost.  Congratulations again!

Hi Deb!

Sooooo happy to see you!!!!

Congratulations on your promotion.  I think Dave said it all. lol!
No, really it's great!

I can sure relate about wanting a smoke to celebrate.
My job is like a hunt and when I found something good, it was time to celebrate with a cigarette!!!!  It took a good four months before I could snag a deal and not immediately think of a smoke but boy, was I ever  lost at the beginning.  Smoking is such an insidious habit. It gets into every little nook and cranny of our lives.  One of my old quits was lost because I didn't know how to relax without a cig, went to Hawaii and lit right up. ugh.  I always thought cigs were about the mundane or bad events but it's linked to the good too and the cravings are just as strong!!!
You did great. Glad you got through it :)

Wow, those taxes!!! I'm in CA also and there is no way I could afford to smoke now. I'd really feel guilty (down one income here) just taking all that money for me.  When I was behind someone in line buying cigs, I couldn't believe my old cigs were 7.00 a pack BEFORE the tax increase. Holy  smokes! For real!
What a waste.
You could probably have more fun if you drive down the 405 throwing dollar bills out the window!

Congratulations Deb on your promotion! When I quit almost a year ago now, cigarettes here were almost £6.00 a pack of 20, which at the time the exchange rate was almost $2.00 to the £1.00 so, a pack of 20 was almost $12.00! (dont know what they cost now- that would be interesting to find out though)

Congrats Deb, on the new promotion! Good stuff! I believe cigarettes are now over $13.00 a pack here.
At a pack a day that works out to $4745.00 per year! What will we pay for addiction?
Now you know how us Canadian quitters are saving all that money!
A person could do alot with that kind of money, if you're thinking of quitting....need I say more?

Good morning, everyone.
When I quit 12 days ago they were 4.50 a pack in NC. Yesterday someone was saying they were 5.25 a pack. Ironic thing is the big tobacco companies raised there prices first to make a liitle extra change before the big increase from the feds. Nice.

Congratulations Ms Director!  What great news.
As far as the price of cigs goes, I checked a couple of months back and they were around $10.00/pack.  Some stores were charging tax on top of that (13% up here), but some were already including it - depends on where you shopped.
You're doing great Deb - keep up the fight!

AWESOME Director..............more money for nice rewards......

CONGRATULATIONS on saying N.O.P.E........Reward yourself big girl......
That was a tough test and you did GOOD.
5 days and you're a month smoke-free......be PROUD

I live in S Carolina....we have the distinction of being the least expensive cigs in the country......the entire US of A!!
If you buy a single pack......I think it's near $5 now.  I always bought by the carton and paid $28 before the tax.  I haven't checked but it should be near $40 or maybe a bit over now.
I will be finding out because I want to know how much MORE I'm saving now.

hugggggggs Bob

I got a promotion today at my second job!  I'm now the director of senior outreach services.  Very exciting.

But after I got the news I really wanted to smoke.  It seems that good news can trigger that desire as much as bad news.... which makes sense.  But it was really strong and I had to lean very hard on earlier crutches (gum, water, straw), and sweat it out.

4 of my clients (from the other job) announced their quits today.  I don't think I can credit my quit as much as I can credit the new taxes on cigarettes here.  Up to almost $8.00 a pack as of today.  I heard today too that New York is up to $10 but don't know if that's true.  And you all know that there are lots of people out there that will pay that!  What are the cigarette prices where you are from??????

The good news: We don't have to pay for poisoning ourselves anymore.

The bad news: Well, there isn't any (we've quit).  There are only gains for us.  Today and all of our tomorrows.
Deb
