Hi wolfmedic......welcome to SSC

Pay attention to Lainey and Rock and debby and Sarah AND all the rest of the people here that will not let you fail this quit if you want it.  If I can do it.....you can.........You just have to want control of your life back.  As time goes on you'll really see how the addict in you controlled everything you did.  It's amazing.

Worth it??.....only you can decide that.........your family will benefit.....the kids are going to think you are an awesome human being for Quitting.....my son is 45 and still thinks I am awesome for Quitting.  My 65 yr old Bro-In-Law is proud of me.  You know what......I'm proud of me too!!!!

Doesn't matter at all how many times you Quit before.....They say the average is 7 times........ Make this your Quit that sticks.
Simply want it more than your addict wants to make you his gofer.  You CAN do it..........and we'll help!!

Bob

Wow...Talk about support.  1st day is good so far, using  lozenges for the first time.  My wife picked them up for me, and well, all is good so far.  Got a 24 hour workday coming up tomorrow though, that will be a hard one.  I am thinking that with these forums and the backing from this group, I may actually be able to pull this off.

Thanks again

Wolfmedic, welcome to the SSC!  You've been given some great advice.  Debby is right, this quit is all about YOU!!!  And your kids will benefit from the positive side effects of you being smoke free.  Lets make sure you are 110% prepared for this quit.  Go through "my program" so you have a plan in place to help with stress.  You know what has worked in the past, so incorporate that in this quit.  Add your quit meter to your posts from "my profile" so you can track your progress.  Set up a reward system to celebrate your success!  A small reward for each passed craving, a medium reward for each smoke free day, and a larger reward for each smoke free week!  Treat yourself like royalty, maybe that will help with any irritability towards family and coworkers.  Drink lots of iced water to flush the toxins out of your system.  Are you quitting cold turkey or are you going to use a NRT like Chantix, the patch, etc?  Use the search feature here at SSC to see best practices from other members.  Read, read, and read some more!  Post as often as you need.  Know that somebody is here 24/7.  We're all rooting for your success!

Hey Wolfmedic! Welcome to the SSC! That irritability the first few days is so totally normal, we have all been there. Go through the program here Wolf if you haven't already, read all the posts you can here. Knowledge is power and the power to help you quit is in the very threads on this site, as there is a wealth of knowledge here. Gather up a quit kit of tools and go get yourself quit!
Ask your family and friends for support now Wolfmedic, warn them that the first couple of weeks arethe hardest part and you probably will be irritable and cranky, it is part of the process.  They love you and they want to help you!
Spend some time here preparing and you will sail all the way through.
Congratulations on quitting! You can do this!

Hi there wolfmedic,

Like you this isn't my first quit, but I am determined that it will be my last.

I have told all my family and friends, that this quit is for ME and that if they really want me to win that they need to give me space, but be there when I need them.  Up to now this seems to be working as I realise that even though they all want me to quit, when I feel that I'm being watched all the time, that this is when it just puts more pressure on my quit and I tend to thingk about smoking more.

So the best advice I could give to you is let everyone know that this is YOUR quit and help will be asked for when needed.

Remember that this quit is about you and not anyone else, take one day at a time and reward yourself often.

Log on here as much as you need and read as much as you can as advice is always given and things that you read on here really do help.

Debby

Hey folks,

For the upteenth time, I am giving up smoking.  This may be the most serious attempt though, as my kids are on my case to give it up.  The school's are teaching them that much anyway.

My main reason in the past was my irritability towards my family and coworkers whenever I attempted to quit.  I am truly hoping to be able to overcome that aspect of quitting this time around.

I would definitely appreciate any advice anyone could give me on dealing with family stress while trying to quit....Thanks all, and I'm sure we'll all be talking.
