Okay, Debby, you're in a tough a vulnerable place, so you want to protect yourself with all you've got.
 
This part of the quit does totally suck, but we suck it up and deal because we're focused on the prize on the horizon, which is freedom.  It's all about the freedom, Debby.  Historically, anyone on the path to freedom has consistently wished for the safety and security of the "old days," when we were much clearer about what was what.
 
We are trading that FALSE sense of security (maybe a good working definition of addiction??) for a TRUE sense of freedom and autonomy -- self-control like we've never seen it before.
 
We should remember that things in the past were never as good as we thought they were.  Take the blinders off and you'll see a miserable smoker who would do anything to get past this appalling addiction.  You're there, Debby.  Do you want to move forward or backward?  You are the only one who can answer that.

Hi Debby!  Welcome to SSC, and sorry you are having such a hard time right now.  Realize that this WILL pass and is only temporary.  Resist the urge.  Take a Tylenol, Alieve (my personal fav) or some other over the counter pain reliever for your head.  Relax.  Perhaps a bath, massage, curling up with a book or a good movie/TV show.  Be very kind to yourself this first week or so.  You deserve any extra TLC you can muster up (call in back-up, if needed).  You can do it...hang in there!

If you feel the urge, or are tempted to slip:

AVOID the situation.
Identify the situations when you normally smoke or chew, or feel cravings. For most, high-risk situations include work breaks, finishing meals, having coffee or being in a bar. Plan how you will avoid these situations for a few weeks. Plan for alternate activities.

LEAVE the situation.
If you find yourself in one of these high risk situations, leave if you can. And, leave before you get a craving.

DISTRACT yourself from the craving.
If you find yourself in a situation you can't leave and you get a craving, distract yourself from the craving by: Thinking about something else, like your Benefits of Quitting (or how much money you’re saving every week, how your body is healing itself). Doing something else to distract yourself like drinking water or deep breathing exercises. Thinking about an upcoming event in your life, such as a vacation.

DELAY acting on the craving
If you can't keep your mind off it, then make a deal with yourself that you will wait 5 minutes before you give into the craving. The craving will usually pass in a couple of minutes anyway. If you delay, the craving will go away.

Use SELF TALK
A craving may be accompanied by negative thoughts about your ability to resist it. Use positive self talk statements to combat your negative thoughts.
 
Stay strong debby...you can and will remain smoke free!

Sorry to hear that you are having a rough time! Rock has given you great advice. And work on your attitude. Be positive.
Beproud of yourself and your decision to quit. It's the only decision in your life that has no cons attached. You are giving yourself the best gift ever!
But we have to experience some days of physical and emotional discomfort. It's the price that we have to pay. And it's worth it! Remember that you are sick of being a smoker; you don't want to harm yourself anymore and you want to be free!! Selfpity is not good right now! Reward yourself because you are 3 days free.
You are almost nicotine free! So hang on Debby. Read and post, this will help too!

Debby, so sorry to hear about the cravings tonight.  You are on day 3 of your quit.  It takes about 3-4 days for the nicotine to be out of your system.  Now it is the addict in you trying to draw you back.  Are you rewarding yourself?  Take a nice long bath.  Brew a cup of tea.  Go for a nice long walk.  Treat yourself special these next couple days!  It does seem tough right now, but it will pass.  And if you need to scream, do it!!!  Come back and Vent here!  Cry if you need to!  We've all done it!  Do a search on "headache" to see what other members have done to resolve them.  I remember having headaches for a couple days starting around day 3 as the nicotine was out of my system.  There was just a thread on headaches in the past couple days.  I remember some of the mods had great advice!  I hope you can get a good night's rest tonight!  We'll be here all through the night if you need to vent!  Just remember, its all about YOU!

Oh no !!!!
I seem to be having one craving after another!!!!!
 
The day seemed to be going fine. only had about 2 or 3 cravings this afternoon.  But from about 6pm they just seem to be coming none stop!!!!!!
 
I have a splitting headache and am totally shattered. Maybe this is pay back as the quit didn't seem to be to bad up till now.
 
See you tomorrow hopefully feeling better and not ready to scream or cry don't know which like I am now
