I, too, suffer from anxiety attacks during the week before my period. I tend to have anxiety on a normal basis, but I have it under control except for when it is pms time. It comes like clockwork and drives me crazy. I have to tell myself that it will pass and I also take a little bit of xanax to help me through it. Good luck to everyone out there.

A lot of those hormones come from our adrenal gland, which as we all know, gives us our nice little "fight or flight" syndrome. Phytoestrogens, (hormones from plants) have helped me the most for PMS. Native American women used to use it for birth control, Wild Mexican Yam, or Black Cohash. I wouldn't use it along with the pill, though, too many hormones. You take it just like the pill, go off it while you're on your period. (Wouldn't rely on it for birth control, ) I used the cream form for a year, and entirely ended my PMS, and shortened my periods. You use 1/4 t. and rub in, if it takes more than 30 sec. to absorb, you need another dose. I have also read that DHEA will balance all the adrenal hormones, but seems to work better for men; haven't tried it yet, myself. Good luck! Cathie P. S. Red Clover contains all 4 phytoestrogens, sometimes I drink the tea. You can buy it, or sometimes I just pick it and make my own. It's the big clovers with the pink-purple flowers!

Hi Jen, I have the same thing! I have been on the pill for 7 years and started with panic disorder a year ago. Everytime is stop my pills for the 7 day break I get much more intense anxiety and have more panic attacks. Once I start the pill again I dont have as many. I think it definitly has something to do with our hormones. My mom and doctor both agree...but we haven't found anything to fix the problem yet.

Hi, This topic of hormones affecting panic has been a popular topic on the site. It is not unusual to experience changes in your panic symptoms as your cycle of hormones varies. Casey _______________________________________ The Panic Center Support Team

Hi all, my anxiety also increases around my period for me it kicks in about a week before i get it. I always had bad pms ( moody, sensitive ect.) growing up but not anxiety or panic. Now it seems I have the anxiety under control all month and when its pms time its kicks in. I try to just deal withit and tell my self its something I need to live with but if it gets bad I will take .5 mg as needed. My period is due today and I needed to take one yesterday and today. I read alot about PMDD that might be what it is ??? who knows anymore! Good Luck

There is a pill called mircette that I used to take. I took it for homonal headahes because it tapers and there are only 3 placebo pills I think. The 4 before it are just less of the hormone. Ask your doctor about it and if that doesn't help, some docs will just tell you to skip your placebo pills all together. Good luck.

Yes! I've not found a cure for that with any birth control yet. I took the shot before and had horrid time with it. The pills I've taken all kinds and nothing works to help the period/panic cycle. Infact I think it made it worse. Only help with pills could be in making the cycle shorter. It's different for everyone though. I think the best pills are the ones that taper their levels each week. That way you don't come crashing down off hormones all at once.
