Am I Dreaming?????

15 years ago 0 1843 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Breather, I'm in Houston this week.  When I was here the last couple trips I smoked.  Last night on the way to dinner, I walked by several bars I have frequented in prior trips, all places I've smoked.  All the bars now have no smoking signs on their doors.  I had a dream last night about stopping in one of them to smoke.  But I couldn't smoke because the bar had gone smoke free!!!  I woke up thinking I wanted a cigarette, but I guess seeing the non-smoking sign last night made it to my dream and kept me from dream smoking!  I've had a few other dreams where I either wanted to smoke or I was smoking, mainly because something happened that day that would have caused me to smoke, or I had been somewhere and a memory triggered me smoking or wanting to smoke.  But they were just dreams!  Its weird how our minds work.  But the good thing is that I didn't smoke!  And you didn't either!  Congrats to all of us who have kept smoke free!

Hello Sassy and thanks for posting. You're right , I should have just been glad it was only a dream. I'm surprised that so many have had dreams like this but shouldn't be because I'm sure it's on our minds loads , especially in the short term. I'm going to read all the posts over again. Thanks again everyone. breather 64 Addict 0

Hi moss Good to hear from you again. Seems like there's a lot of us having dreams at various stages. Nice to meet you belle. I like your way of looking at it. Find a positive in a negative. And handyman thank you. If there is a next time I'll try and shrug it off the best I can. I wonder if we'll be able to control our dreams and just say "no thanks" Yes belle it must be important to dream about it. breather 64 Addict 0

wow.  the dreams.   remember them well.   in the early ones i ran around looking for smokes...found them, lit up and coughed so much i woke myself up.  woke up thrilled it was a dream.  the next series of dreams involved me stamping them out...looking for matches...borrowing matches...bumming cigs...exhausting.  again, woke up relived.   a few weeks later the dreams involved cigs with no matches - or wind tunnels - or broken cigs....which led to the dreams about putting out other peoples cigs and finding broken ones all over the house.    it seems that my subconscious was giving me 'dream messages' according to where i was in my quit....each dream convinced me how right i was to quit - and it kept me strong and free from cheating.      i was never so tired than the days i woke up from the smoking dreams.  i even mentioned to my husband the other night that it's been a while since i had one....seems so long ago...and before you know it...it will with you as well.  keep up the good work...and remember, it's only a dream

I also had one of those nights about week 4 or 5. Took me completely by surprise. Took me most of that mourning to start feeling normal again. Just kinda shrugged it off and moved on. Only happened that one time and it was before I joined this site so I missed talking with anyone who would have known what its like. If happens again I think I'll be a little more prepared!

I had smoking dreams almost every night for weeks in the beginning.  They are very real and can be very upsetting.  Try to look at it this way...you are sort of reminding yourself of how much you want this quit and how important it is to you.  Don't feel guilty...feel proud when you wake up that you are still smoke free and obviously determined to stay that way!

Hey Breather............Me too.  Had them quite frequently.  It always took a while to shake them off.

I'm glad the last week has been a bit better for you.  Congrats to you for hanging in there and keeping your guard up.  I hope each week gets better and better for you.
