Here I go again

Some will tell you that that only prolongs the symptoms or craves.  But I have heard people say that they did it that way.  If that works for you then at least your only doing one a day which is probably way better than what we were doing.

I also think it's no different really than using nicotine replacement isn't that doing the same thing?  As long as you don't use it as an excuse to get back on the slope and go back to smoking.

Everyones quit seems to be different.  You may think about chantix or one of those pills.  My wife said her quit was pretty easy her doctor told her she could keep smoking while taking it and she started just not wanting them as often and after two months she was a non smoker.

But like Miss Marple said and others have said don't quit quitting.  We can do this together.

Ok, so here it is.  Since I can't seem to go cold turkey, I am going to take it a bit more slowly.  Instead of trying to not smoke ANY, I am giving myself 1 per day until I am ready to give them up completely.
I know it will only delay my actually being quit, but it will keep me from flipping out at the first sign of stress.
I'm holding on to that one smoke and am only going to smoke it if absolutely necessary.  I know it does nothing to get rid of the stress, but I guess it's a way for me to get through this a little easier.
Freaking myself out about it is certianly not the answer; so I find this is going to probably be the best answer for me.
Opinions?  Advice?  I'm ready to hear any any all...

The most important thing is that you're back here.  Never quit quitting!!!  You aren't the first to slip and you certainly won't be the last.  Nature of the beast!   Stay strong and prepare.  I'm still writing down some of my triggers and trying to come up with alternatives!  It seems there is one around every corner.

Other important thing...no killing.  Killing bad...not smoking good.
Hang in there and be proud of your determination!

I've been trying to go cold turkey.  If it gets TOO bad, I will try something else.  I did it cold turkey the last time and managed to stay quit for 3 months.  I can't take any of the medications (wellbutrin, etc.) because it does nothing but make me jumpy and keeps me awake.
Thanks for the support.  So far so good today...only had that little slip up this a.m. but have had no more smokes since then.
Plus, I don't feel like killing anyone anymore (so far); so that's a good thing!

Hi Twohazy,

You have had a slip.........please don't be too hard on yourself. This happens to the best of us. However, please do take the time to analyze what contributed to the slip and how you can manage your stress or triggers effectively with other methods for the next time.

You have received some great advice from Breather, Jay and Pupikat and the most important thing is that you are back on the wagon. Avoid the triggers as much as possible.

Good luck and keep posting!

Great going Twohazey, Jay, and valic.
You CAN and WILL do this. It sounds like you would make great quit buddies. My quit buddy is Kaiser  and we help each other thru some hard times. I found it really helped to have a quit buddy, it makes you really think twice before lighting up since you know you have some one else depending on your strength to help them through the hard ones. I do have the best quit buddy on SSC but I am sure you two would make great ones too. Hope it works out for you.
NOPE
