I like the CD idea, but how about a relaxation CD.  Zen or piano or elements or progressive relaxation, or....or.....

Hi there pal....congrats to you and the wife!  i would take a trip to Barnes and Noble and see what was written about Bob Dylan - in fact - there is a new book about his photos/poetry with an intro by Billy Collins....how's that sound? and for your wife....walk into Lord & Taylors and buy her a bottle of perfume in a beautiful bottle - it will smell better than it ever did before.  or bath and body works and get the makings of a bubble bath for two.  how's that?  be proud...not easy but you've done it....it's not over yet....but you're fighting the good fight.

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Jeff, one of my favorite rewards is just taking a long walk and smell the outside without cigarette smoke!  As for a physical reward, is there anything you have been putting off buying?  Its funny, when I was a smoker, I had no problems spending $50 or more at a time on a carton of cigarettes.  But if a cabinet door was loose in the kitchen and would cost $20 to fix, I would put off fixing the cabinet door.  Its how our mind thinks.  We need to have the $$$ to buy cigs but we put other things on the side burner.  I like the spa idea, even if you both just a facial or something.  A drive like Mr Q said is nice, especially since the car won't smell like cig smoke when you are driving!  Being a week quit, you might even do something like hiring a cleaning service/maid service to clean your house and get rid of all of the cigarette musty smells and soot on your windows, tv screens, etc.  That would be a nice treat to get your house used to being smoke free!  Let us know what you decide to do!

Congrats to you and your wife Jeff.  You both should be very proud.  So you've saved $108 since you quit and also add what your wife has saved by not smoking and now you know what your working with for cash.  Most people try to save all their smoke free money and have a big reward but my view is that in the beginning is when you need those rewards the most so this might be time for a splurge.

I think a nice smoke free night on the town is in order.  Buy your wife a nice little gift to show how proud you are (you'd know better than I what to get).  Break all the rules of keeping things in order and just go out, drive around, take a day trip, whatever you want and know in the back of your mind when you stop for gas or food or whatever that you didn't spend $100 + dollars this week.  In my case I spent more.  My wife and I took many trips and I bought little gifts for myself a lot.  I know that logically spending more than your saving doesn't make sense; however, it does and here's why.

You are early in your quit and as time goes on smoking will take up less and less time on your brain.  So in one year you may save 4k but after a year you probably won't think about how much your saving daily at all and in the years to come you can multiply that money by each year you two live but you probably won't need rewards daily after a year so now is the time to splurge in my opinion.  Here's an equation.  I appoligize for bringing math but it helps me explain.
$18 a day x 365 days = $6570
Your 33
Lets be modest and say you live till your 80
80 - 33 = 47 years

$6570 a year x 47 years = $308,790 total you'll save.

But you know what, you will likely only suffer through the first year and probably less than that.  So even if you need to splurge more than your saving now do whatever it takes to stay happy at this time in your quit.  I know this isn't exactly what you were looking for with regards to suggestions but I hope it puts things in perpective.  You both should be very proud and deserve a lot right now for pulling through.  All the best.

Mr Q

As of 10:30ish tonight, my wife and I will have finished HELL week. I am doing better then she is, I think, but hey, It is HELL week so who the heck knows? So, I'd love to suggestions, if you'd be so kind. One, a prezzie I can get for her just to say I love you and thanks for being my quit buddy. Then something we can do together to be a good reward. I thought dinner in a nice rstaurant, but we are also on weight watchers. Plus, we don't really like fancy meals, we just 2 hippies. Sassy, I know you can think of something!!! Thanks in advance,

Api aka Jeff
