Reward ideas??

15 years ago 0 1080 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
OOH Sylive, you are talking my language!! rewards yay!! Ok, I saved mine, and bought BIG stuff- all the guys here know about my new laptop and verrrrry expensive purses!! oh so self indulgent but who cares!!
So, I used to spend, £63.00 pounds a week on smoking which is about $100.00- I bank this religiously every week, even now and of course it has mounted up and up as that is alot of money that was just literally going up in smoke!

So, let us know what you decide, and yes reward yourself, you deserve it!!!

Hi Sylvie,

Great advice here.  It's always hard to balance reward money vs. cigarette money....Although I am rewarding myself on hallmarks....Usually after each month....I took a different approach in the beginning from some of the other members though....My viewpoint was that the beginning of the quit was the most difficult so during the first month I went nuts financially...Not really...I mean they were small but they usually involved money...In fact I spent all if not more than I had saved by not smoking....Rewarding myself everyday with sunglasses and books and whatever allowed me to get that dopamine suplement I was looking for and made my quit a lot easier.  Where I come from cigarettes are a little more than 10 bucks a pack....In fact I think our province has set the record for bleeding smokers dry...lol...After my last quit I started smoking the no name brands at 7.50 a pack...Wow!  Big differance huh?  Anyways my point is that you've outlayed money for cigarettes everyday for however long you layed it out so my opinion is splurge the first month and a half and still have a big reward for the end of the month.  After a couple months the real pain of it goes away and it becomes more of a suggestion every now and then.  Get through this part however you can.

Add up all the money you spent on cigarettes over the years and then decide how detrimental splurging through the rough patches with be.  After all I'm not suggesting you do this forever....

Anyways, this is solely for the purpose of offering a different approach....Do what works best for you....Thanks for listening..

Hi Sylvie!

I, too, found it diffacult to come up with daily rewards.  So, I set my sights high!!  I was really determined to quit and I decided that I was going to use my "quit money" for a scuba diving trip sometime after I make it through a whole year SMOKE-FREE!!!  It's been a long time since I've been diving and it will be a really SPECIAL reward!  So, I AM determined to remain smoke free to be able to plan this trip next year!!!

How's that for a long term reward???  Maybe you have something REALLY special that you would like to do in the future that you wouldn't think that you would necessarily think of doing because of the money factor????  Heck, look at my stats....   I've almost have $1000 saved for my trip!!!   Where would you like to go????

Hi Sylvie,

Great question! There are many rewards possible, inexpensive or even free! How about a night out at the park? A nice bubble bath and book night? Movie night, new haircut, manicure, pedicure? If you'd like to save up, how about a weekend away at a B&B?

Members, I'd love to hear your suggestions!

Sylvie, my daily rewards have been taking my dog for a long walk and smelling the fresh air.  I never smelled pure fall air before as I was always smoking, so I can now better enjoy nature.  Plus, the walk is good exercise for me!  I agree about not spending more money on rewards than what I spend on cigs.  Once I hit 50 days or so, I bought myself 2 new shirts at the Ralph Lauren Factory Store.  A bit of a reward (was like $70 for both), but they were on sale with an extra 20% off!  So it was a nice reward without spending too much $$$.  Maybe you can put $50 away each month and buy yourself something nice after 4 months?  I have been putting my savings into an interest earning money market (about the only savings vehicle that earns money these days!  LOL) so I will have a long term reward once I hit the one year smoke free mark.  Thats a long time away for me, but at least I am saving the money I would have spent on cigs.  Good luck, and congrats on reaching 18 days smoke free!

Hi Everyone,

I'm pretty proud to be 18 days smoke free and I think I deserve some rewards!  I had a hard time coming up with daily rewards or smaller rewards.  I'm already eating too much junk since I quit so I don't think food rewards are the answer.  Most of the other things I can think of are expensive and I don't want to blow more money rewarding myself than I would smoking.  Has anyone come up with some good rewards?  Daily or for something to save up for?

Thanks!
Sylvie
