Hi Rock

I am able to share some info with you on this one.  I had a leg DVT last year after a minor surgery.   That was the final straw that brought me to put down the smokes.   I also did the Lovenox for the first month and Warfarin for 7 months.  Like ML, I used Chantix and didn't have any problems with the combination.  More power to you for not using aids but just know that Chantix is an option with Coumadin.  How are you doing on Coumadin?  I was very resistant to it and had some bad side effects so I am glad to be off it for now.  Hopefully forever.

Please work through the program here to gain some insight on what you might experience and don't be afraid to ask questions.  Somebody will always be able to relate and help.

Good luck and good wishes ....................

Moss

Hello Rock.  How are you?  Welcome to the SSC.  This can be a very scary journey, but is so worth it.  Many of us like Tresa, ML and myself had to really fight for our quits, but we did and we won.  You can do this too, you will be so happy that you did.  Like ML said, I have to hand it to you, I never would have been strong enough to cold turkey it, I used Chantix.  You are a tough cookie, so you can do this for sure.  Hang in there and let us know how you are doing, we are here to help.

Hello Rock,
When you are past the second week you will feel so great that you will realize what a fool you were smoking... we all were great fools when we started smoking...
When you start feeling the benefits of stopping you will see it is not worth smoking and it gets pointless to do so.

Hi Rock and a huge welcome to SSC- well I have to go with what Tresa said, you really have no choice about quitting, if a doc had yelled at me then I would be worried enough to make sure I did it, and it looks like you feel the same!
Rock, you have come to a terrific place for support, as DL said, the members here will support, help and advise you every step of your quit journey if necessary.
We have all been where you are right now and can empathise with every experience so lean on us and share your journey.
I can't really add to the great advice you've already been given, but I can re-iterate one point that Mr Q and Bonnie advocated and that is read Allen Carr, if only for confirmation and affirmation.
I hadnt considered that Carr was part of my quit however I had read his book prior to my quit and I wonder now if it helped with my postive mindset as it really made me question alot of my smoking habits and addictive ways.
Good Luck Rock, I look forward to hearing how its going.

Hi, Rock.  I love this SSC Gang.. They are the most helpingest crowd of friends you'll ever be lucky enough to meet across the Web.  They have already given you all the advice possible for a new Quitter and Henny Penny and Bonnie and Rusty and ML have covered the essentials of getting a good physical and mental grip on the beginnings of breaking this terrible addiction.  Your motivation is powerful and I side with your doctor when he freaked out at you for still smoking after the diagnosis!  Dagnabit!

Drink the iced water and get yourself a mantra to beat off the cravings and the early withdrawal symptoms....  stick really close to the site and post often...

Hi Rock -  I've been on Coumadin (well, the generic Warfarin) for quite some time now.  When I decided to quit smoking, I asked my doctor about Chantix and was given the OK and a prescription.  I had to work up to it as I was a long time smoker and it kind of scared me to be without my ciggies.  Anywho, I did quit on Thanksgiving Day 2007.  I did have some gastro side effects from the Chantix but I have gastro problems anyway.  I did get in touch with my doctor who told me to stay off the Chantix for a few days but keep the quit and when I went back on it, to reduce the dosage, which I did.  So far, so good.  I didn't stay on Chantix for the 12 weeks.  One day I forgot to take it and just kept on not smoking.

I have to hand it to you to go cold turkey.  It's quite a feat.

Other than that, good advice here about eating, resting, exercising and reading, reading, reading.  The reading has saved me more than once.  And if all that doesn't work, just watch your mileage - the days pile up quickly and the stats are a motivator.  I can't believe how much money I have saved by stopping smoking, with which I have rewarded myself in small ways.  The support here is phenomenal.  If you have any desire to smoke at all, come here first and post about it.  Soon the crave will pass and you get to know more people who are or were in similar circumstances.
