Pippy, and other Newbies! Do what you have to do to get through the day! Sometimes you can get away with ignoring them, the next time you may have to work hard. Changing your routine works wonders for wacking the cravings .
Focus on today, 'I will not smoke today" One day at a time is all it takes!
Just remember  NOPE!

I can just remember when i would get a craving out of the clear blue sky, i found them annoying, and just would try to ignore it, and if it dident go away i would just have to power through like in the beginning, of course all this goes away in time, there is nothing like the first week or two so if you have gotten that far ( which i see you have )   you can get through now, just hang tough  And for pete sakes  dont give in  keep that quit pippy, its not always easy but you can do it :)  Tresa

I know that I say it alot but I have 2 things that helped with my craves, when they are bad I promise myself I won't smoke for today and worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Since quitting I have probably drank 100,000 gallons of ice water  the cold really seems to soothe my mouth. Pippy and Dj you are both doing great just do whatever gets you through the moment except SMOKE. :-)

Hi Pippy,

I haven't met you yet, so I'd like to say welcome to the SSC.!!!

I have observed on this site that women seen to have a harder time to quit than men.

I found early in my quit that whenever I "needed" a smoke that I would breathe as deeply as I could and eat peanuts. Different things help different people. Others sucked on chunks of ice.

I wish I could be more help, but please remember to post before you smoke. Wait for at least five responses. By then your crave should subside.

Hang tough....You've made through the hardest part of your quit, now it's all down hill.

Goofy

pippy,

If you feel the urge, are having cravings, or are tempted to slip:

AVOID the situation.
Identify the situations when you normally smoke or chew, or feel cravings. For most, high-risk situations include work breaks, finishing meals, having coffee or being in a bar. Plan how you will avoid these situations for a few weeks. Plan for alternate activities.

LEAVE the situation.
If you find yourself in one of these high risk situations, leave if you can. And, leave before you get a craving.

DISTRACT yourself from the craving.
If you find yourself in a situation you can't leave and you get a craving, distract yourself from the craving by: Thinking about something else, like your Benefits of Quitting (or how much money you’re saving every week, how your body is healing itself). Doing something else to distract yourself like drinking water or deep breathing exercises. Thinking about an upcoming event in your life, such as a vacation.

DELAY acting on the craving
If you can't keep your mind off it, then make a deal with yourself that you will wait 5 minutes before you give into the craving. The craving will usually pass in a couple of minutes anyway. If you delay, the craving will go away.

Use SELF TALK
A craving may be accompanied by negative thoughts about your ability to resist it. Use positive self talk statements to combat your negative thoughts.

Good morning all. I have been having cravings, not bad ones but I am still getting them quite often. I have just been ignoring them.

My question is, is this a good thing to ignore them or should I try and work through them. Acknowledge them and get through it or just ignore?

I don't want to start smoking again, so any advise would be much appreciated.
