Steve,
Good luck on the 8th of August. It's really smart to be going into theatre with the nicotine addiction in check.  Keep reading in here like everybody says and post about your worries as you go along....

Steve,
Don't hope you do it, make it an affirmation you will not smoke again.  Also don't do it just for the surgery. I knew for example a women who got pregnant and decided to quit smoking until she had her first baby because that's what the docs told her. The day she had her child the psychology took over her brain and it told her that she had achieved her objective. Thereafter she immediately began to smoke after that.  I hope you can see it in yourself that another puff has use to you anymore, and therefore there is no need to hope because it you are so sure it's done and finished. Thanks everyone. Like I said earlier, I'm not having too many physical issues. I just get real bad cases of " I want a cigarette". I really think I can do this. I just hope I can continue to want to do it.

Hey Steve!

You are really off to a great start!!  The first couple of days are the hardest and you survived!!  This is one of the hardest things that you will ever do, but just remember that you CAN do this!!!  Keep a positive mental attitude and keep telling yourself that you are now a NON- SMOKER!!!  It's all about being positive and remembering Not One Puff Ever -NOPE!!!  Spend as much time as you can here reading and learning!!!  Also remember if you have a real bad craving, post and wait for 5 responses!!!  By then your craving will be gone!!!  You really can do it and we're here to help!!!

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

15 years ago 0 41 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I did it.
I quit Sunday when I had my last cigarette before bed. I had it planned out that that would be the last cigarette in the pack. So far so good. I think being on all the pain pills that I'm on helps control the physical side of quitting, it's the mental part that I have to deal with. It's hard to resist the temptation to go buy more. I am going to make a honest effort to quit though.

My back surgery is scheduled for 8/8 so my system should be cleaned out of nicotine by then.
