Thanks for all the support everyone. I guess former smokers aren't all that bad. When I was smoking there was nothing worse than listening to a former smoker go on about how bad it was for you , etc.
Day 5 and no laspes yet. I haven't told anyone at work that I have stopped and find it funny that no one notices that I don't "go out and check the weather" at all.
As much as I miss smoking I am starting to think that this may work out. I do get the urge to go borrow a cigarette and smoke but luckily the urge goes away quickly.
One day at a time.

Congrats on your quit!!!!! You can do this--just be prepared with lots of cold water, snacks and deep breaths. Also spend much time reading & posting --it is really helpful to read things written by those who have beat this addiction one day, one hour or one minute at a time....
It can be done, welcome & keep us posted...

Hi Steve! good to see you back here!- well done too on the quit. I hope we can all persuade you to keep going after the surgery Steve- it would be such a shame to let a good quit go to waste!
I hope we will hear from you in the next few weeks leading up to your surgery- come and tell us how you're doing or how you're feeling- the psych side can be tough, that was my problem so I can empathise with your thoughts.
Good Luck Steve, and good to see you here.

I had surgery last month this was one of my primary reasons for giving up smoking I needed this surgery last year and I couldn't have it because I had a bad lung infection that just wouldn't go away since I have stopped smoking I have had no trouble with my lungs and I recovered from the surgery better than I would have if I had still been a smoker. Actually I am just realizing it's years since I have been able to go six months without antibiotics for some sort of infection so not smoking really has it's rewards in more ways than one. You won't ever regret making this commitment to yourself it's a journey worth taking. Wish you luck with the surgery.

HI Steve, as you can see, I only have 2 weeks and everyone here told me it would get better (the smoking thoughts). Well, it actually has. I slept for the very first time last night only waking up once. Before I would wake up every hour on the hour and dreaming about smoking (or thinking about it). I'm glad you took this step to be healthy, especially before surgery.
