Yeah--I've decided that I'm not going to get too stressed about actually how it's working as long as it is.  The gum is actually starting to gross me out and the taste is becoming vile.  Nonetheless, when I really have a craving, popping the gum, even for a few chews, seems to help.  Amazingly, even in eight days, I find that I'm not coughing as much, if at all.  I'm feeling kind of strange today--lonely.  I think I'm missing my friend, the cigarette.  I think I need to pick a new inanimate object for a friend--one that's not trying to kill me.  thanks for all your support.  Lisa

I stopped using the gum after just a few days because I didn't like the way it tasted and I also just wanted to be done with the nicotine once and for all.  It's a personal decision, though, and you should do whatever it takes to protect your quit.

I have some nicotine gum and use it if a have a unbereable craving. Its my last resource...Otherwise i chew normal gum....I dont like the nicotine gum because it burns my mouth

While using any kind of NRT; the gum, patch, lozenge, inhaler, there is still nicotine in your system. These products can help you break the habit of smoking while slowly stepping down off nicotine. 
 
It is completely up to you how you choose to quit. Cold turkey, NRT or prescription medication are all very valuable quit methods. If you do choose to use NRT we suggest you follow the directions on the box.

Your doing great Lisa.
Pen is right you still have nicotine in you system.  But if you quit the gum you will be going cold turkey and  that may not be good for you right now.  Keep chewing the gum but maybe every once in a while substitute a regular piece of gum for the nicotine gum.  Don't do anything that will screw up you quit so far.  You are through Hell week.  Heck week can be easier for some,  It was Hell for me.  So be careful.

i would continue to use the gum for a while and then slowly cut down on it.
your at a spot now when things will probably start to ease up a little bit.
week 2 is tough but not like week 1 , week 3 will be easier than 2 , and after that , at least for me , it got real easy.

Stick with the gum and instructions or if you dump the gum you will be effectively going Cold Turkey and all that come with that on day 7.
 
You are not nicotine free at present because of the gum. Gone in 3 days is for ALL Cold Turkeys!
 
Do a little more research and figure out which way is best for you.

Day 7--You guys said that the nicotine would leave the system after three days.  What about my nicotine gum?  I still am chomping on it whenever I get the urge to smoke.  I only have a piece about every two hours which is what the directions suggest.  I was wondering whether I am simply replacing one bad habit with another and whether I should, now that I've been cigarette free for 7 days, stop cold turkey without the crutch of the gum.  What do you guys think?  Either way, I just don't want to screw this up so any suggestions would be great.  Also, I still want to rip everyone's head off.  Even cute little golden retriever puppies are not safe.  Lisa
