Welcome Ron.  It sounds as though you have a great start on what you need to get this done. I have utilized this site so much in the past 6 months, it is what has gotten me through.  There are so many helpful people here, always check in, ask questions or just vent, it is a safe place to be.

Good luck to you.

Thanks all for your support.  My first day went pretty well considering. My biggest obstacle was these quick flashes of "ok now I'm going to have a smoke" followed by me saying to myself, "what are you doing, you have quit smoking". They were like that after lunch, after I came back from a walk (ironic), and many during the evening.  Last night was tough because I could not sleep. I went to bed at 10pm, woke up at 12am and thought oh my god how am I going to get through the evening.  I ended up waking up again at 3am and finally got up at 7am. I felt like my eyes were shot and I thought to myself ok this is going to be a challenge.. let's just hang in there. One thing I used to say was how time flies everyday. Now I realize I guess it does when you constantly tune out to have a smoke. Now that I've stopped smoking for a day I can no longer say that.  I wouldn't call it fun right now but I'm listening to others and hanging in tough.
Ron

Hi Ron! I can relate to the whole 'if I can survive 1 or 2 weeks' theory! I have tried pretty much everything to date! I've done cold turkey, gum, patches, herbal, hypnosis, allan carr etc! Cold turkey was ok, I did manage 1 or 2 weeks! But I hadn't prepared myself properly for the pyschological addiction and  the automatic reaching for a cig when I had a bad day or was stressed. At the moment, I am using zyban and a paul mckenna hypnosis book and cd and I can really see a difference in how I feel this time and I'm more confident. You will have bad days, it's inevitable but if you are prepared then you'll make it through them no bother! With regards to how people quit, most people on this site have tried many different methods and they just had to find something that works for them! I know a lot of people who have quit cold turkey and have been off cigs for years so it can be done!!

Best of luck!!

Paula

Hi ron,
first of all congratulations on deciding to quit. that is the first and the biggest step you took. So proud you did it.
I won't tell you it is going to be a cake-walk, because it is not.
but the group is here for you when you need it.
I found the emails from this site helped me as well, just a little reinforcement to keep to your quit.
I so hope for you that you will come here a lot and just let us know how you are doing.
wish you success with this new commitment in your life.

Hi Ron and welcome.  If it helps just think to yourself that you are just quitting one day at a time make it thru today and then tomorrow you can promise yourself that you won't smoke today.
Good Luck
