In an hour and a half, I will have 24 hours.  I feel like I can't do anything other than distract myself with the internet this morning.  My state of mind is certainly not conducive to completing any work projects.  I quit once before for about a year but then went to a college reunion and convinced myself that I could just smoke that weekend.  WRONG.  Anyway, at least I learned that lesson before and hopefully wont have to learn it again.  Lisa

Hi Gobs,

Good Morning, welcome and most importantly, Congratualtions on your decision to join us in your quit!
Everyone here is so supportive and insightful and I find it most helpful to just read, read, read.
Inspriation hides in the least expected places. I learned to navigate mostly by trial and error. Its not too difficult once you get the hang of it.
Stay strong, and stay close.

Theresa

Hi, Gobs,
Now that you've discovered how to open a thread for yourself you're half way to being an adept in the SSC Forums.
Go back to the home page and look around... you'll see how to crank up your Quit Meter and how to find the programme with all the quitting steps and hints and tips...
Did you get rid of your left-over cigarettes and lighters and ashtrays ??   Have you spent a long time preparing for this quit? Best to spend as much time as you can reading through all the great stuff on the home page (charge the billable hours spent educating yourself about saving your life to your biggest corporate client - I'm bolshy enough and paranoid enough to figure they're ALL to blame for trapping us in the smoke-filled Hell... mumble mumble...)

Get lots of iced water and keep it to hand. Get up out of your seat and talk a walk to the washroom and sing to yourself that old smash hit from the Supremes " Stop! In the name of love... before you break my heart. Think it o-wo-ver..."  Sing it out loud if it won't get you fired!
You're doing really well, Gobs, in that you're sticking very close to this website during these three (3) or four days of Hell Week when the nicotine is being forced to leave your body... do not ever take a puff! Not One Puff Ever! N.O.P.E.

You are doing it, counsellor!
Patrick

I have yet to figure out how to navigate this stuff yet, so for all those who have provided words of encouragement--thank you, thank you.  I'm sitting at my desk taking huge breaths and trying not to think about going downstairs, outside for a cigarette since I've been her for two hours now.  I'm chewing the nicorette gum incessantly, and not attractively either.  Like I said, I'm clueless about how to respond to people's messages so any help would be greatly appreciated.  I think my brain is simply not functioning on all cylinders.  Lisa
