Finally got to my doctor

16 years ago 0 967 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Called my doctor today, she is switching me to cymbalta.  I hope that works better.  Not that the Effexor didn't work, but I can't sleep, and I am getting to much seratonin, I felt like somebody rubbed my body down with icy hot!!  I hate trying new meds, hope this one is better.

I have been on everything, SSRI antidepressants, benzo tranqilizers etc. They all have a place but they outlived their usefullnes and gave me too many side effects. I think these drugs can help but don't understand why some docs keep so many people on them forever. I was on effexor  for years and initialy it was helpfull and then it held me back emotionally and made me impotent. I got off everything last year and felt better Now since I've stopped smoking I only take a small dose of welbutrin. I think it's helping me with smoking and only plan on being on it for a few months.

Kelly, even if I don't post that much, I have been keeping up with your progress, which has been phenomenal since you started your quit.  You are taking all the right steps to cope and doing it in tandem with your doctor is the best way to go.  Eventually, the proper drug or dosage will be found and the new job should help as well.  In the meantime, good on you.

I also am on clonazapam, xanax and valum...I intermix them.  I don't use them everyday, but they are there, that is why she is trying to stabalize me on one so I can get off the others.  Thanks for the info Mica,

anxious 1,
I've been on effexor xr for 4 years (yes, that's an incredibly long time & @ 300mgs a day a huge dose, but... I'm dysthemic- deppression that doesn't go away) I love it. I've had people ask if I felt like the same person.... the answer is 'no', I'm a much better me. I am also on clonazepam for anxiety, but that one is iffy. It works wonders, BUT is highly habit forming. Your doctor and you will have to weigh the benefits against the possible future withdrawals from them. If you can do the nicotine cravings/withdrawal symptoms: it's possble you'll be able to handle that withdrawal, too.
Best of wishes & good luck.
Mica

Hey Kelly,

Hope you are doing better.  Just hang in there.  I went through all those different drugs a few years back.  You will get situated.  Just be patient and give them time to work.  You will be fine.  I was on effexor and I did pretty well on it.

Kelly,, I took Effexor for about a year and loved it after i got past the few weird side effects - it was an improvement over Prozac alone since it aided in the norepinephrin reuptake inhibition and so I was evened out by the serotonin and uplifted by the extra norepinephrin... the only reason I had to quit it and go back on Prozac was because of my high blood pressure problem... shame... it was a great stabilizer for me at that time... hope you can ride out the strangeness  to get the benefits of it!

Anxious,

We suggested keeping a journal of the time, dose and any side effects that you experienced while taking your medication. Stay in touch with your doctor regularly and talk to him about with any questions or concerns you have.
