HI Mta, my quit day was 2/11 actually 2/10 at noon... I am on chantix and seems to be working well for me. I actually had promised myself when I had lost between 10 and 15 lbs. i would QUIT. hope aboout some carrot & celery sticks with fat free ranch... hmm. not quite the same as some other rewards. I also have a can of sugar free. latte mix for home. This is a great place.. make sure you pop in here when you get a craving/urge.. read some forums. ask for help and someone will respond pretty quickly. Hey mta and welcome to the site. That is great that you and your wife are quitting together, although sometimes it may not seem that way! Helps having a quit buddy around. Day 2 & 3 were the worst for me too. day 1 & 2 felt like i was drugged out or something. Now I am at a stage where mood swings have surfaced, for about the last week, hate it. Keep on coming here to keep us updated on your progress, I hope you get as much from this site as i have, it really does helps using the tools and resources and having the support from the great people here. Hey There! Good for you guys! Me and hubby quit together too. We are empty nesters as well and pretty close to retirement. Our main motivator in the beginning was $$$$. Smokes where we live are $12 a pack, so between the 2 of us it was hitting $700 or more a month. Thats just freakin INSANE! Once the denial started to fall away we simply could not justify that kind of expense. Especially when we start living on a pension. Now as the days pass and we are feeling soooo much better physically, are reasons are expanding. This site has helped so much. Read all you can. Post too. The support here is awesome! :) Faith My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/23/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 57 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,425 Amount Saved: $684.00 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 13 Mins: 26 Seconds: 7

On top of everything else, my wife and I are also watching our diets, so I can't even reach for chocolate or anything else. Thus far I've kept myself away from the triggers from the past...namely.........drinks after work. Wife and I are empty nesters, so we eat out about 4 nights a week... oh yeah...btw......she just quit smoking also....she's doing Chantix....seems to work for her..... anyway....thanks for the words of encouragement.........

Hello, MTA, you're doing fine... 8 days in and Congratulations to you.... keep coming in here and ask for help if you need it... wait for a while and check out the replies from the members.... There are several ways to quit: NRT , Champix, Cold turkey ... go with the one that feels best for you but just remember to avoid the "occasion of smoke and smoking" ( See, I'm a lapsed Catholic and I still hear the natural wisdom in such phrases ... come to think of it, I started smoking right around the time I lost my faith.... hmmmmmmmmmm). mta, you are doing great. I'm a cold turkey too. I spent alot of time in a fog at first. I am still suprised every time I log on and see how many days I have. It takes alot of soul searching and alot of positive attitude but it does happen day by day. You are doing it. Good for you - hell week is in your past. Be aware as Heck week progresses that you may have equally strong craves again (Mine happened at day 9), but you've proven you can deal with them. Hang in there..... OK.....smoke free for what....8 days now.....cold turkey.... what a way to do it.......days 2 and 3 were toughest thus far. Felt like I was in a fog on Day 2....I actually felt like I lost my peripheral (sp) vision. Cravings are still there, but I get through them......
