Hey Astrofan,

I would love to take part in the walk/run in Phila...I am facing my own health ordeal at the moment--but have always been a big exercise fan (step, spin & free weights) and if  I can get cleared to train I promise to walk/run in august in Phila....

What inspiring and touching news about your devotion to your wife of so many years and the love that still shines...you are both very blessed.........I'm so glad to hear that things are gong well after the treatment.

What a great nspiration to keep the quit...also--it's just simple that life is so much better out of the addiction to nicotine........

Stay Strong-- & I have to say--Go Phillie's................

Deb

Mike,

I am a 2 year survivor of cervical cancer so the livestrong challenge means a lot to me also!   I am so glad to hear that your wife is doing well!!!  Thank you for sharing your story....

I want to share with you the words to a song that was written by Wideawake for cancer fighters and survivors, it is called Maybe tonight maybe tomorrow by Wideawake...

I heard the news today.
It came out of nowhere.
I wish I could run away,
but where would I go?
Is this my destiny?
Something so unfair...
What will become of me?
God only knows.

And they say the road to heaven might lead us back through hell.
Maybe tonight, maybe tomorrow,
we will win this fight and bury this sorrow.
We're so alive, still holding on, not ready to die,
so we LIVESTRONG.

My pride is left for dead,
as my world gets shaken.
The thoughts inside my head
are so hard to control.
I am staring down the unknown,
but one thing is certain.
You could break my body,
but you will never break my soul.

And they say the road to heaven might leads us back through hell,
but we're holding on for more than stories to tell.
Maybe tonight, maybe tomorrow,
we will win this fight and bury this sorrow.
We're so alive, still holding on, not ready to die,
so we LIVESTRONG.

Mike,
I'm so glad your wife is doing well.  You are both doing a wonderful thing to celebrate life.  I have the yellow "livestrong" wrist band and I wear it all the time.  Another reminder.
I'm going to check for the Livestrong Challenge up here in the Greater Toronto Area.
Cancer CAN be beaten!

first let me mention that i got married when i was 19 years old , and i am still very happily married to my sweet little bride 31 years later.
in the summer of 2004 she was diagnosed with uterine cancer and it was very aggressive.
her doctor performed a full hysterectomy but there were signs of  cancer cells in her lynph nodes so she went through chemotherapy treatments , and over 30 radiation treatments.
by the way , she has never smoked.
her treatment has been successful and she is in remission doing just great .since her problem 4 years ago , 2 of her 3 older sisters have gone through the same thing.

so where am i going with all of this ? lance armstrong has a foundation that sponsors nationwide events called ''the livestrong challenge''. these events are fund raisers for cancer research and are both challenging and rewarding , and they are also a lot of fun.
now how does this relate to me not smoking? well last year i walked in the 5k event but i wanted to run in it this year , and i have used that as motivation to quit smoking.
so far it has helped me a lot , my event is in austin , texas on october 25th and my bride is running with me.
they have similiar events in prtland in june , san jose in july , and philadelphia in august.
if this event might help you , i urge you to check out the details at livestrong  website.
if this event is not your gig i understand , and my prayer is that you will find and hold on tightly to whatever keeps your ''quit''.

thanks,
mike / astrofan
