Great Coping Mechanism

Peace, You are doing really well. Glad you're making through the 8pm "crave". The effects of smoking can be devastating as many of us know, with the loss of loved ones. Clearly, quitting is one of the best things we can ever do for ourselves. Keep that quit going strong, Cheers, Jan My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/27/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 89 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,225 Amount Saved: $756.50 Life Gained: Days: 10 Hrs: 4 Mins: 23 Seconds: 4

It is a great daily reminder Jan ! I too see those exact same commercials on t.v. - they are raw and a very real reality of what smoking can do. My worse time is at night right around 8 p.m. when I get all settled in to watch some t.v., or throw in a dvd. But I banish the 'thoughts' with visualization techniques of things which I don't want to happen to me IF I was a smoker. So far it's working out very well for me. You are right on the $$ there Jan.. Do WHATEVER it takes, as long as we stay clean! Wishing everyone a super smoke free day :) Peace :p p.s. my father, almost all of my aunts, uncles and a few cousins died prematurely due to lung cancer from smoking My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 51 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,020 Amount Saved: $459.00 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 20 Mins: 18 Seconds: 4

You know, that's the nice thing about time, it makes the quit easier the further we get into it. I am very grateful for the long periods of time I go without a thought of smoking, and yet, at night, re-affirming my quit has become habit. Whatever it takes, as long as we stay clean! So these are smoking commercials about the dangers of smoking, right? I've never really given any of that much thought. I just remember that I am now a non smoker and move on. I certainly do not want to end up like that and I know that it's a great possibility that I could were I to continue to smoke. I am now a non smoker and don't even think about it hardly at all anymore. The only time I think about it much is when I'm on this site! One of the things that has REALLY helped me with this quit is one of my thoughts every night I go to bed. Here in Canada, there are some pretty intense smoking ads on television right now. I reply the "quitting is hard, NOT quitting is HARDER" commercial in my mind every night. I try to include every detail, from the fellow with the oxygen tank right down to the surgeon who can't operate on a patient with cancer, caused from smoking. Its pretty raw stuff, but it works. And that's what its all about. Jan p.s. - My sister's husband died from inoperable lung cancer at the age of 50. He was a two pack a day smoker.
