Glad to hear that you have some great coping skills... the things that have been mentioned work for a lot of people... glad to hear that they are working for you too... :) Even though the cough may be annoying.. keep in mind that it is your lungs cleaning themselves, that is a good thing... :) Keep up the great work!!! Yup, cold turkey all the way. My last quit I tried the gum which just made me sick to my stomach. I'm doing better than I thought I would, as long as I stay busy. Astrofan and Lou, those are things so far that have worked wonderfully for me, and it's nice to see the validation that it works for others as well. I'm just starting to cough (yuck) but even that is kind of refreshing (in a weird way, I guess). Thanks again, all, and I look forward to matching some of the great stats here ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/14/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 10 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 250 Amount Saved: $47.50 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 17 Mins: 43 Seconds: 29

Hi there Kickinit and welcome to SSC... CONGRATS on 9 days smoke free!!! That is awesome! Sounds like you are started of to a great quit!!! You have found the right place to meet people who know exactly what you are going through. Work through the program here, it really does help. Be sure you find coping skills that work for you. Everyone here is really good about sharing what helped for them... try them all to find what works for you. For me, lots of cold water, walks, deep breathing, prayer and lots of positive self talk! kickingit way to go , tomorrow you hit double digits on your quit days and that is a BIG DEAL ! when i was 10 days in if i hade a craving i would breath in and out real deep for about 5 minutes {about the time it takes for 1 smoke} , the craving would then be gone and it made my lungs feel great! good luck , you're doing great ! mike/astrofan My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/12/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 42 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,260 Amount Saved: $378.00 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 22 Mins: 59 Seconds: 42

Kickinglt, Welcome to our support community and congratulations on being quit 9 days already. Take some time to work through the program and learn some coping skills to help you through your triggers and cravings. Think through your quit, Why are your reasons for quitting? What are your benefits of quitting? How will you reward yourself? and set up goals and milestones to help you stay on a successful path. Keep us posted. Brenna, Bilingual Health Educator

Hey HG!!! Glad you found us! We don't care if you whine!!! We'll just serve you some cheese and crackers! ;p Seriously though, we're here to help and there is a lot of great information in the program and in the posts!!! Do your homework on this site and your quit can be much more tolerable!!! The most important thing in becoming a successful non-smoker is having a Positive Mental Attitude!!! That and taking it one minute, one hour and one day at a time!! You CAN do this and we're here to help!!!
