In the beginning of my quit, I ask the same question... and someone replied... on Tuesday.. they couldn't pin point what Tuesday... It would be a Tuesday.. and I have had lots of Tuesdays!! Distract, then distract again!! How you doing lalew? Hope your days have gotten a little easier. Think about the alternative..being totally engulfed in the addiction again, smelly, fearful of disease, out of breath..etc, etc. The quit journey is WORTH it, to be free from this addiction. Hope all is well. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 326 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,824 Amount Saved: $1,630.00 Life Gained: Days: 45 Hrs: 11 Mins: 30 Seconds: 49

Lalew First of all, 50 days is no small feat so a big Congrats to ya. The mental aspect of quitting is the tricky part for most. There is a post in Coping with Withdrawal Symptoms by Nonic called "Flipping Coins" I found to be helpful in understanding these strong craves. I will bump it for you Hang in there and know that many here will help you succeed. Hey Lalew .. I'm into just over 60 days and I still crave and some days kill for a cigarette and ask myself why I'm doing this.. and yet when I go anywhere and today all smokers are smoking outside and I see those smokers I know I will not smoke again. I think that some people its more gradual and sometimes we don't even realize how long we are NOT thinking of a cigarette. Any time that I have a crave I think back to my worse days and ask myself if I want to go through that again.. Hang in there post often and all kinds of fabulous people will respond to you .. 50 days of quit is too good to give up now! Ok, 50 days and still having the major, feel like the first week, grouchy, back of the throat want to smoke jitters. I know that is what it is, that little monster of addiction wanting to take my life over again. I know I have to be past the physical addiction part of this don't I?? I have read the Allen Carr book, I even have tried the cool lazer, that almost made the craves worse. I am cold turkey, and don't want to use the gum, or patch if I don't have to, especially after a quit this long!! If I could answer that question I would make a lot of money.. I am 611 days in and sometimes I forget cigs for a week and at other times I would still kill for one! The strange difference really and honestly is that I KNOW I wont smoke again EVER! me x My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 611 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 13,442 Amount Saved: 3,268.85 Life Gained: Days: 123 Hrs: 3 Mins: 19 Seconds: 53

I can't say I have any really MAJOR craves.. since the first 2 weeks. I have thoughts.. and it seems just before any milestone for a couple days I get what I call "pop Ups" the thought of sitting down and relaxing.. lighting up pops up... Then I think.. and remind myself ... You don't do that anymore. You don;t smoke. Visually picturing myself in "situations, places, " as a NON smoker. Admitting ... to myself .. I am addicted to Nicotine. and it is controlling my life.. helped reading "Allen Carr's Easy Way To Quit Smoking" has been very helpful. (you can find it on line also) and download it and read it on your computer. Reminding myself of the positives.. making friends here.. NOT wanting to set my quit meter to Zero.. putting at least part of the money away I would have spent on cigarettes.. ( I want to save up for a new lap top ) ..... the positives.. have taken a Good part of the "cravings" away.. I have smoking "thoughts" once in awhile but I can't say it is a real "craving". getting myself distracted.. and squashing the thought.. going on to something else ASAp and not dwelling on the thought.. hoping this passes quickly for you My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/10/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 60 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,020 Amount Saved: $204.00 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 13 Mins: 59 Seconds: 33

First off, congratulations on your 49 almost 50 days smoke free. Second, no one can really tell you when, for sure, the craves will end. Each quit is different and unique. Terry says she never really had any craves and I believe that's because she never entertains the idea of smoking again. Sometimes I do get to thinking about smoking in this positive, romanticizing way that does me no good at all but seems to come out of no where. Well, actually, it comes out of 42 years of doing it, even while it was trying to kill me, but rational this addiction is NOT. So recognizing that I'm doing this irrational thinking helps me stop it, and voila! the crave stops. Seriously, how I think about the quit in general is how simple or complicated it is for me. If I focus on how much better I can breathe, how much better I smell, how my skin is visibly gaining color and vitality, it makes it that much easier to resist the temptation to think of this horrible addiction in a positive manner. Quitting smoking can even enhance your libido. I'm just sayin... I've not had bad cravings and I think that Positive Mental Attitude has a lot to do with it. Don't give the cravings any more power than they already have. YOu are a NON SMOKER so go about your day's with that thought in mind. I know it's not easy, but it is doable. Keep up the great work. lalew, 50 days is amazing! It's never the same for any 2 people. Cravings will subside with time. Keep yourself distracted as much as possible. Have you tried gum or cinnamon sticks? You're doing so great, don't give up! Members, any suggestions for lalew? Sylvie, Bilingual Health Educator
