You are all correct, and I made it a mission to go out and find two positivie people around here that had quit and had good stories to tell. I felt much better when I left work. I know from this site that it is all in how you look at your quit, and I am looking at it in a good way with all my good friends here. Thanks for taking care of me, I need it. Hi Kelly You are doing a fantastic job. Denise is soo right.. the man is giving himself permission ... that he can start and quit whenever he wants.. (there is something wrong in this picture...) put this one in the shredder.. quickly. Look at the photo.. your avatar.. there is a beautiful person with a lovely family enjoying vacation... You want to be around .. for plays, games, proms, graduation, etc... you have anniversaries and family milestones to enjoy and celebrate... you do not want to be running out of the celebrations to find a place for a nicotine fix... or... carrying an oxygen tank.. or worse. Remember the little old gray skinned lady in the smoking area of Disney Land..... You can do this.. I know its going to be some emotional roller coaster rides.... There have been a few days here.. I swear I wish I were an ostrich where I could stick my head in the sand.. Taking a few deep breaths.. getting a few minuutes of quite or to re-group... sometime just turning the TV down.. getting the noise level down.. just chilling out for a few minutes.. Hang in there... this will get better.. I am 59.. please quit NOW... I think I wouldn't have some "sagging" skin .. or maybe not as many wrinkles if I had done this so much sooner.... Hi Kelly Just Moss checking in. Some good support and information here. We'll get there my quit buddy, we'll get there. In response to your question, no change yet but the med change was only 2 days ago so I'm hoping soon. I will let you know as things progress though cause I know you are worried about that with yourself. Good Wishes at you. moss My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/19/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 142 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,130 Amount Saved: $479.25 Life Gained: Days: 22 Hrs: 22 Mins: 7 Seconds: 42

Wow. I love the passion in Denise's reply! Denise - you're so awesome! See Kelly - you have some incredible supporters here! I'm a medium-timer here with 410 days under my belt. My truth/reality is that yes, I do have thoughts (and sometimes even fantasies) about smoking. But that's all they are - brief, occassional thoughts. I also have thoughts (and sometimes even fantasies) about packing my bags, leaving my family and flying to the tropics. They're both just short-lived thoughts of things I will never ever do. They don't happen every day and they're not painful cravings. Kelly, I need you to hear me on this one. When someone says or writes what Alan has done, they are PLANNING on doing what they SAY they are not. There is a saying in recovery that you are either working on recovery or working on your next drink (or smoke, or drug, or what ever addicts you). In his letter he GIVES HIMSELF PERMISSION to smoke with alcohol and to QUIT AGAIN. That is his plan to smoke. Not a heartfelt letter of congratulations at all. YOU DON'T WANT TO DO THAT! You want to continue this quit. You are doing wonderful, you do not need to be swayed by someone who has obviously made up their mind to go ahead and smoke. Can you see that? He is only having trouble because he is ALLOWING THAT THERE IS A POSSIBILITY for him to smoke. Throw that rag in the trash where it belongs. You have come too far to be influenced by trash like that. YOU DESERVE a smoke free life. YOU DO! BELIEVE IN YOURSELF! And believe in the long timers here, who say they don't think of smoking and are glad they quit. They are NOT planning on smoking, can you spot the difference in attitude? I sure can. I'm going with the long timers, how about you? Oh dear, I didn't mean to shout! I just meant emphasis! Hugs, Denise My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/9/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 91 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,820 Amount Saved: $455.00 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 4 Mins: 29 Seconds: 4

Hi Faith, how are you doing? You are so sweet to check in, and just saying hello is medicine in itself to me. Thanks!! My husband has just thrown another cog in my wheel, temporarily, but there. He forwarded me an email (we work at the same business) from a co worker who he had questioned about his quitting experience. Let me see if I can paste this mans message: see below Congratulations. The difficult part is done but you can never let your defenses down or give in to the temptation or give up on the fight. The addiction goes away but the desire or the habits associated with smoking continue but become less and less noticeable. It is really difficult even two years later but I guess smoking for 30 years what would I expect. If you do fail you can always quit again. Many people, including myself, have quit numerous times only to start up again. Who is to say other than myself if I will start smoking again. If I do it will be a disappointment but I can quit again. I guess the trick is that you know its time and you want to quit. My biggest battle is when I see my two good buddies in Des Moines, IA and we go out and have a good time. Smoking seems to go with alcohol. And yes you can smell the smoke on people and it is quite offensive. I continue to like the smell of pipes but cigs sometime get to me but I do not believe that this would necessarily stop me from picking it up again. Good luck. Alan Alan is a very nice man, but expresses how it is still very hard for him after two years. This kind of junk I don't need to hear, thats why I hang out here, for the positive. So, it kinda brought me down, but I am holding my head up and trudging forward. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/6/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 125 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,750 Amount Saved: $468.75 Life Gained: Days: 10 Hrs: 5 Mins: 14 Seconds: 48
