Phil, so great to hear the good news! Keep up the great work! Rosie's Friend, Smoking lowers HDL cholesterol levels. Once you quit smoking, HDL cholesterol levels rise within weeks or months to levels that are equal to their nonsmoking peers. Casual smoking also reduces HDL levels in people highly exposed to smokers. Sylvie, Bilingual Health Educator

Good morning to all! Question....What does smoking have to do with cholestrol?? I was not aware that the 2 were connected. Is there any part of our body that smoking doesn't wreck havoc with? Congratulations Phil, always nice to have good news from the Doc! I'm really glad to hear that news, Phil. I checked in with my Dr. a couple of weeks after I quit and asked him how soon I should have my cholesterol checked again. I wanted to see if it goes down enough to get off the statin. Consequently, I'll get it checked again in 3 months and hopefully it will be down enough to get off another pill! Your good news is inspiring!
