OK, I see now. I have been seeing a therapist for many years now. While on meds I usually do not have to go very much, but off meds I saw her more and more often. I should have seen the signs, but never wanted to believe I needed meds again. But yes, CBT can and does work. I was much worse before I began seeing my therapist. I believe that I am dojng CBT since it's a therapist and I talk about things. Man have I talked about things. LOL. Good luck with your doctor's visit. David

Hi David. Thanks for your info. I believe that CBT stands for cognitive behaviour therapy. I'm going to talk to my doctor about both and see what he says. Its funny..I've had a pretty good day today. Actually feel like myself for the most part. I guess thats why I can't figure out if I really need meds or if I can get through this some other way...its crazy I tell ya!! lol I have ativan for my panic attacks.. but have yet to take one. So far I've been able to ride it out but its the anxiety thats frusterating me. Thanks for your help. Tracey

I have been up and down this panic road so often I think I have worn a groove in it. You're experiencing nothing odd and nothing that cannot be helped. I recently got off all meds, but then started to need valium. I am not back on my anti depressant. I gave it a shot off meds, but it did not hold. I have been off work since Wednesday because I had about a 4 hour panic attack that night. It was horrible. Four days back on meds and I am improving. I even went on a date today. My job is waiting for me when I get back. I can say that you should not feel like a failure. My first feeling was that I was letting all the people down who thought I succeded at being off meds. But what I did not realize or refused to realize was that I was only hurting myself if I stayed off meds. The highs I had off meds were so great. I felt like I could do anything, but as the lows got worse and the panic got worse, I began to realize that if there are meds that help me feel better than why not use them. I know it's a humbling feeling to realize you need meds to help yourself become panic or depression free, but sometimes it's the case. I nearly screwed up a lot by being stubborn. But I had to try being off meds for myself. The anxiety just got too strong. I think if you go on meds and feel better than it will help. What is CBT? Any other questions feel free to ask. I can write a book on what I have been through. I actually started one but it's been untouched for a while. David David

Hi Tracy I have never taken any anti-depressants... My body does not react well to any meds... birth control, tyelenol, allergy pills... so i try to stay away from them... But, I am finding CBT very helpful! hope this helps Katie

Hi Katie! Thanks for replying. I'm going to see my doctor on monday and am going to ask him about CBT. I'm willing to try anything. Its so frusterating to feel this way. I was wondering if you have ever taken any of the anti depressants and if so did u have any side effects. Thanks again... Tracey

Hi Trey55, Welcome to The Panic Center. We thank you for sharing your story with us today. This support group is full of supportive individuals who may be able to help you answer some questions regarding panic and anxiety. Please feel free to roam the site at your own pace. If you look to the left of the screen under "TOOLS" you will find many supportive tests. These tests are not diagnostic tools and are not a replacement or substitute for a physicians advice. The purpose of these tests is to prepare you with information that you can present to your physician. When youre finished the test, you can either print your Final Report or email it directly to your doctor. We also have developed a Panic Program. This program is 12-weeks and involves the tools mentioned above. Each session is based on the previous session, so we strongly advise that you work slowly through the program and not jump ahead. If you have any questions or concerns with our "TOOLS" you can contact our support department at support@paniccenter.net. Take care and we hope to hear from you soon. hi there! welcome to this site!!! i think it is a wonderful resource and i am sure you will find it very usful, its like we are all on this journey together... its kinda like that reality show "the amazing race" but we are in it together... the prize is ultimatly freedom!!! i understand you completly... have you tried cbt? its like talk therapy and sometimes can help anxiety without having to take meds... if you are concerned with talking medication... I have found it to be a pretty good help... i still have panic attacks, but know how to realise its happening... my therapist told me that recognizing them for what they are is the first step... it's a long journey, but at least there are options and resources and really knowledgable people on this site!!!! take care, katie
