Deck. i can relate totally to your post as I've also become quite disconnected at times, especially at work. I put this down to having developed a short attention span. The strange thing is, since i stopped smoking i can now strike up some great conversations with myself + there are these other voices in my head telling me to do things. I think Deck that like me you may have other issues going on in the background ? Just checking in to see how Deck is doing.... I know that many people can relate to what Deck is going through - many have been there or are still there! So, I think this is an important thread. Going back to the period when you were in Slovakia, Deck, you have been through illness and a severe emotional bashing. And, yes, you sound like you're well and truly depressed. I got an enormous amount of help from posting and helping on the DC sister site. CBT helps and, despite what is being said in the papers about SSRIs, the pills can help you to smooth out the valleys and peaks going on right now... if nothing else buy yourself some talk therapy and get all of "it" off your chest... Deck, I am guessing that you will be a little disappointed if you don't get at least one "swift kick in the butt" that you were expecting so here goes:- "Get to your doctor, you're not completely fit" Good Luck, Penitent d1409

Deck - We are all here for you. We all care about you. As these posts show, many of us can personally relate to what you're going through. It might feel like it, but you are not alone! Please call your doctor. And, when you can, check in and let us know how you're doing. Deck - Just so you know, I was misserable for a year and a half after I quit. That's when I found a medical problem that I had. People often times said here.. "Smoking masks other things" and I was shaking my monitor, and going "But.. Like WHAT!? What does that meen!!?" I go to the doctor every 3 months already, and my doctor had no clue about smoking masking anything. Truth is.. smoking masks not only physical problems, but physiological problems, and emotional repsonses. When we can't hide behind a cigarette anymore, we're forced to deel with life and all of it's ups and downs, and many of us just simply don't know how. This can make this period of time ...right where you're at... especially difficult. I recomend that you start journaling, and also... start moving more. Take some B-vitamins, and just plain ole.. take good care of yourself. You're not alone. Deck This sounds all very familiar. Check out the post 30-100 days "NO MAN'S LAND." It might give you some understanding of this particular phase. Deck, As already stated, smoking can mask symptoms of depression and this may be the case for you. Head over to our sister site www.depressioncentre.net and take the Web Based Depression and Anxiety Test. There are many remedies for depression both pharmaceuticals and other natural solutions. Take some time to talk with people and read and find out what is best for you. Brenna, Bilingual Health Educator

Since I know quite a bit about this topic and the symptoms, I agree that you are describing depression and depression does not go away because you want or desire it to. It does not mean you are "sick" or a "bad person", it simply means you may have a chemical imbalance in the brain, for which there are numerous meds that can and do make a difference in millions of peoples lives every day. You don't even have to tell anyone except the doctor. The fact is that smoking and depression are correlated and it can often mask the symptoms until you are quit for a period of time (say 60-90 days?). Even if you don't want to, I strongly encourage you to get checked by a doctor. Even GPs will do antidepressants now. Also, there is a sister site of this one, its "depression center.net" and they have a questionaire you can take just to see. Please, do something besides smoke. That will just add addiction back into your life and make nothing better. Deck I absolutely agree with Changing. Your words, your lack of enthusiasm, motivation etc are all clear signs of a depression. And yes, as Changing noted, it is treatable. You do not have to suffer hon. I've been in that very state you are describing and yes, it will get worse if left untreated.. Unless of course you are willing and very able to pull yourself out of it all on your own. But, if it's a point, and by your own words it seems that it's getting the best of you .. See a doctor as soon as you can. Congratulations on a great quit you have going.. 80 days is fabulous !
