Hey Jan, what about taking a nice warm bubble bath? It feels so good to just relax and let the mind rest. I imagine even the most intrusive of family members would give you some time in the tub! Hope you are doing okay Jan - It is true (as much as we hated smoking, it did give us a chance for little "breaks") Guess we still need those breaks just without the cigarettes. I remember going through a period of time when "something" was missing. Despite the fact that the first few weeks are so hard, in some ways I was on abit of a high. At some point the stress and excitement of the quit wore off before my new non-smoking life took hold. I guess it's all part of the process. Is it time for a reward yet?? Hi Jan: I love having my family all together at times as well, but also totally identify with your need to be alone. I think that was one of the reasons I used to go out for a smoke, because not of them was silly enought to follow me! Your choice to go to the computer room is a good choice that serves the same purpose. Enjoy the solitude, lean back and take some deep breaths, reflect on how lucky you are to have your family with you for this occasion, and, once you have got yourself back together, go back to the festiviies. And remember...... they will all be going home soon..... Hi Jan, Someone once told me "normal" is a setting on a washing machine..LOL We all have our own normals. And sometimes we Need quiet. I know you are enjoying your family. having everyone around though is probably setting off some adrenaline... before we squashed any of our brain chemicals by numbing them with nicotine. So we are adjusting to our own real emotions now. I got "antsy" last week. I was getting close to 40.. now I am looking forward to 50... After a busy weekend with more activity and noise, sit down, listen to some favorite music and try to get some extra sleep and get re-charged. (((((((((hugs)))))))))) wow you smell nice... Yes Faith, it does take some learning this. How to "do" life without a cigarette. Thanks for all your replies guys, it definitely makes me feel better, and makes me realize that I am "normal". Whatever that may be. I have to say that somethimes I forget just how powerful this addiction is. Even though I physically don't feel like picking up a cigarette and smoking, and even though the smell of smoke on other people does nothing for me, the psychological part of the quit punches me hard in the stomach sometimes. We're going along fine for a while then BOOM! it hits. And the wonder sets in. "What is wrong with me?" That's when its nice to know its still the addiction, and not me. That I can deal with. Bed early tonight, and through it all, I'm sooooo glad I don't smoke!!!!. Can I ever relate to how you are feeling Jan! Up until a few weeks ago I isolated myself almost completely. That need to be alone was so strong. I posted looking for validation that what I was feeling was normal and most importantly, I needed to hear that it would pass! I found out from others who had experienced the same feelings that, yes, it was normal and I can tell you from my own experience that it has passed. At least to the degree that it no longer has any effect on how I do my day. I am still learning how to do life without a cigarette so I think I will still have moments that may overwhelm me. I'm OK with that. As long as I can come here when I need to and find out that other quitters have experienced similar things I can go on, knowing I'm not alone! Hi Jan, Just read your post. Know exactly how you feel. I've gone thru the same feelings, just wanted to be left alone, irratated about I didn't even know what. I think in my case it was my junkie trying to get thru to me to make me smoke again. Sometimes I just feel like saying screw it and buyin a pack and smokin em' all but I need to be stronger than he is and keep this quit, for me!! I smoked for 40+ yrs and have never really lived being a non smoker. It's really new but I Can Do This if I set my mind to it, a stubborn German I guess. You gotta hang in there and be tougher than tough, for you. We all need support from wherever we can get it but we need to make ourselves strong willed and tough111111111You'll do it I know you will. Hello Jan, Even though this is a happy time, Easter and all, I find that even when there are happy times I end up feeling somewhat stressed out. There is good stress and bad stress. I agree with Josie, enjoy the festivities and then go to bed as early as you can :) Your body and mind will regroup while you sleep. You are doing so well .. Hey Jan! I am the same way. I need to be alone to put my thoughts in order, or to hear whats going on in my head sometimes. Nothing wrong with that. Deep breathing helps too. as does a straw. You know its the 60 day crave most likely, so get out your self talk and tell that Junkie just how strong you are, how he's never gonna win and he may as well give up, because you are a thousand times stronger than he is! So kick his ash to the curb! Then relax and enjoy a few minutes alone with your strong ash kicking self!
