Tobyfan, Islandgirl, Jim and Deck...I am so proud of each of you for pushing through, perservering, learning so much about yourselves as you go through this journey.
I'm a little farther along, but perhaps it will help you to know what I learned I can do without smoking:
Cope with the deaths of three very dear people
Enroll in graduate school at age 56 (I'm halfway through now)and work full time at the same time
Travel two or three times a month for my job
Eat, drink, drive, and fly without smoking
Go through multiple medical procedures and medication changes (not related to smoking)
Live with a smoker, have children who smoke, and a boss who smokes
Make a host of friends
These are just a few of the biggies. I smoked from age 17 to 55, around two packs a day. So as we often say, if I can do it, you can, too!
