Hey ICL I am washing some clothes and things so I can have that just washed.. fabric softner smell. I know it will stay around.. and not be smelling like smoke within an hour.. I hit 30 days.. and then the next few seemed it took forever for my meter to flip (LOL) no it seems to be going again.. just try to keep yourself a little distracted.. and don't forget to pat yourself on the back.. (maybe once you get to know people in your new job.. you could get a petition to have the cigarette machine removed.) WOW I haven't even seen one of those in years.... Hey ICL I went thru the same depressed feeling about 30 days into the quit. I was feeling awful, I knew that I was not going to start smoking again, but I guess I just missed it. Anyway...I decided to listen to these great people around here and take their advice. The one idea was to treat myself...give myself a reward for being a NON smoker. I began to do just little things for myself on milestone days, take an extra walk, go have my nails done, whatever...and sometimes, when I was especialy down, I gave myself a treat, even if it was not a milestone day! (One day, I went out by myself for an ice cream cone, oh sinful!) It does not have to be anything big, just some little something that you normally would not do for yourself. I found that looking forward to those things and the time I spent thinking of exactly what I would want for a treat, kept my mind off the Nicodemon and turned it into a positive thing. I choose life, About two years ago I started a new job and was trying to quit smoking cold turkey at the same time. I failed on day 2 of my quit and smoked a cigarette that quickly became a half a pack day habit. When I smoked that cigarette on day 2 of my quit, I felt dizzy and nauseous. It's that sick feeling that now keeps me smoke free. Every time I think of smoking, I think of that dizzy, nauseous feeling and the thought of smoking goes away :) Hang in there, you can do it. Hi ICL, Hope you are feeling better. It is a new day and you have alot to celebrate. Like 34 awesome smoke free days! A new job, new beginnings and new friends and co-workers. Also, you are no longer a slave to nicotine, you don't smell like smoke and you no longer have to hover outside (as DJ described), looking in at the life around you.... You don't smoke!! I choose life, Been there; done that! Smoking will not help a thing. YOu are around what I called the 30 day pit. It seems you fall into this pit of a form of depression and just can't seem to climb out. Let me see if I can help here. I'm throwing you a rope. Grab hold and lets see if we can't get you out of there. First of all look at you!!! 33 days quit! How awesome is that? What reward to you have for yourself? You know rewards are extremely important in the quit. It has to be something just for you. It can be a night of skipping doing the dishes, a long hot bubble bath, a pedicure, new nail polish, anything at all but it has to be something for you that is going to make you feel better about yourself. Go look in the mirror. See that person looking back at you? That is a non-smoker. Look in the mirror and say "You are so awesome! You don't smoke!" Negate the negative thoughts with positive ones. I used to yell at myself in the car. I called it screaming at the junkie inside my head. I would say I'm not going to smoke so just leave me alone! Don't let the junkie inside get the best of you. If you find you can't climb out of the pit, you may want to talk to your doctor. We go through a lot of emotional changes when we quit smoking and sometimes we need a little help to get through these times. Most companies also have an EAP program that will allow some free counseling sessions. Use whatever resources are available to you. Just don't smoke. You will get throught this time and you will be so glad you didn't smoke. Congratulations on your continued success. Hang in there. That little sneak in your head is NO longer Roaring.. but will try anything to get nicotine. I often think of the time I was at a family party.. it was cold and rainy.. after dinner I Was the only one to put on a coat, run outside in the cold, damp rainy and try to stay under the overhang to get MY FIX. then exhaling hard and waving my arms around ... I could see everyone inside.. I went back in thinking waving around in the air... I didn't stink like smoke.. Keep some type of affirmation in your head and keep saying NOPE .. have something you can "pull up" in your head.. to distract yourself.
