I'm doing GREAT

You are doing great dazey.. one day at a time is what it takes. Hunger was a huge trigger.. so I ate small meals more often.. I downsized my plate from a dinner plate to a sandwich plate. I downsized the size of my snacks.. put them in a small dessert dish (kind of like making your own 100 calorie (or less) packs. I chewed gum.. sometimes you only need a bite or two of something.. it can be the sugar free, fat free pudding or jello. A few nuts.. almonds and walnuts are good for you (unsalted) I made popcorn and use some the weight watchers butter spray on it. I figured I could lose a few pounds. but cant grow new lungs.. Somewhere along the line I was told that the chemicals in cigarettes used to 'trick' my body into releasing a bit of sugar into my bloodstream, this would give me the feeling that I'd just had something to eat, and hence the less I ate, the more I smoked. I used to get acid reflux every once in a while, but since I've quit that seems to have come under control too. Maybe it's because I have more actual food in my body instead of acid churning around because it's been tricked into thinking there's food. I just wish I could find a way to satisfy my craving for sweets in a healthy way...one thing I've found is that diet soda is a good way to get the sweet fix...and sometimes herbal tea with sweetner is good, but man, oh man, don't let me near the chocolate bar isle at the corner store or I'm a gonner :-) My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/9/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 555 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 22,200 Amount Saved: $11,100.00 Life Gained: Days: 51 Hrs: 8 Mins: 46 Seconds: 17

Congrats azgirl you are doing great. You may want to talk to your Dr, maybe you need some tests or antacid medication while your body is adjusting. I have been trying to eat smaller portions more often. I find hunger is a big trigger for me. I have seen people smoking, only been close to someone smoking a couple times.. I just kind of look and say ... hmm.. I don't do that anymore.. so far it hasn't been a trigger.. Doing great on the quit.. hope your tummy settles down. One thing I would like to put out there, I'm really glad the subject of bi-polar/manic depressive was brought to the table. That can be a big issue for many people. Thank you for all of the response/support it has been given.
