Fallen Warrior

Hi, MJ, I've always thought of Athena (Minerva in the Latin mythology), the Greek goddess warrior who sprang from the forehead of her father, Zeus, fully armoured and ready to fight ... her breastplate is known as the "Aegis" and so we think of her as the great protector when we say that someone is under the aegis of a great sponsor or mentor... hugs, Patrick My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/18/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 51 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,275 Amount Saved: $573.75 Life Gained: Days: 9 Hrs: 15 Mins: 20 Seconds: 20

Thanks to all of you for your feedback! In terms of the meter reset, I am going to go with setting it back. It is important to me to be SMOKE FREE, and just not sometimes. Will continue the NRT as long as I need to. DL - Are you trying to get me hooked on speed now to????? Just kidding, but it is just as addictive as nicotine, if not more so, and more side effects in the cardiovascular system. As much as we don't approve of it, nicotine is a naturally occuring subtance, not a manmade chemical - so I will treat it as an herbal medicine for the moment. Good thought though, and would have been convenient with the meth lab just down the street...... I do, however need to tap into your vast bank of knowledge. Can you tell me the name of a mythical female warrior that I can use to rename my thread??? It's been suggest that I need to change it as I got back up again. Thanks again everyone, and things are going great. Energy is slightly improved, and now that we are starting to have bright warm spring days it will make a huge difference. MJ, You are not a Fallen Warrior you are a Fighting Warrior. Don't reset your meter treat it as a slip cause by Chemo. Lots of us here are on or have been on some kind of NRT or Chantix so that is no reason to reset a meter. Hang with us and together we can all make it work. Hi, MJ.. I know that taking 7 meds already is a burden for the kidneys but I'd suggest you talk to your doctor about taking a small dose of Dexedrine or like that (I'd suggest espresso coffee but it leads to smoking!) to combat the debilitating fatigue factor of the chemo. I'm just thinking that there must be a better stimulant in the pharmacopeia than nicotine ... I agree with Lainey.. it was more of a slip and because of the chemo. and you went on the gum. Yes MJ we are too young to be old "crocks" I was in the medical field before I "medically" retired. So glad you are with us. You need a new topic now... you are nor a fallen warrior.. the Warrior is back. Well I guess you could treat it as a slip. It is a mite off the regular path for reasons to go back to smoking, you see. :) Hope its going well for you! But Lainey - I DID Smoke, for a couple of days! I was so tired of being so tired that I went back to what was familiar.... What it did do for me was to wake me up enough to realize that smoking is still not an option, but NRT is. I was enjoying not being smelly, having my cat want to cuddle more, not having a morning cough, improved breathing, saving money, no dirty ashtrays around and my house and car smelling better. I still want those things. MJ, there is no need to change your meter, you are going on a NRT, you are not going back to smoking. There is a huge difference here! And we know its temporary. So set it to your original quit date :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 369 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,225 Amount Saved: $3,892.95 Life Gained: Days: 48 Hrs: 11 Mins: 47 Seconds: 46

OK, correct me if I am wrong here MJ, but you are wanting to leave because you are on, or went on the nicotine gum, am I missing something here???? Is there something wrong with that? That's what half of us were on! And you are going thru chemo????? My Gosh lady, don't you dare leave! If the NRT gives you energy, you do what you gotta do, and don't you dare worry about what we think! We think you're doing great! Seriously MJ, it's way better than smoking all the 4000 chemicals, and if you're not smoking than there is no reason for you to leave whatsoever! Please stay with us, you're already doing enough, we are here to help you, so stick with us!
