BJ: Thanks for the note. I had not thought about the B12, but that is certainly worth considering. As for the Vitamin D, I have been taking 2,000 units daily for a year now. This was partly to avoid another chemo side effect, severe osteoporosis (taken along with increased daily doses of calcium) but also in response to emerging research concerning Vitamin D deficiencies in northern climates, and a possible link between this deficiency and breast and colo-rectal cancers. The notes on this on the internet are quite compelling, though I am aware that everything you read there may not necessarily be true. I think you and I are both too young to be "pysically old crocks" - lets do what we can to regain our lives. Face the demon nicotine and make your peace in your own way, that is the best way. Say goodbye then try not to mourn. Parting is such sweet sorrow and parting is the goal. HI MJ I also read some herbs do interfere with chemo. I "warned" my husband and sister when they were going to nturopath with MIL. The naturopath they r going to is also an MD and he is working with the Dr doing the chemo. Right now is more vitamin related to help build the immune system. You might ask your Dr. if vitamin B 12 would be ok to take.. or B12 injection once a month. I found out a few months ago I have severe vitamin D definency which also causes fatigue. I am on a vitamin and vitamin D protocol, had blood test last week after one month of compunded vitamin D (high dose capsules) this is from my primary care Dr. I may have to repeat another 30 days of the compounded D to get to normal level. The fatigue is a bit better.. the pain is quite a bit better, Hang in there. Thanks guys, and I totally appreciate your words of support and understanding. In fact, a tear or two was brought to my eye! In terms of NRT, I am going to continue with the gum, but this time I will NOT try to wean that off at the same time as quitting smoking. That may be what got me into trouble in the first place. I have tried patches in the past (itchy skin rashes and nightmares) and Wellbutrin (muscles spasms in my left foot) so those are not options for me. I will explore the use of Champix when it comes time to quit the NRT. The mention of a naturopath was intriguing, but I have learned that many herbs are contraindicated in the presence of cancer, and some in fact make the cells grow faster. So not too interested in fooling around with that stuff any more either. So at the present, I am not smoking, but I am chewing - gum. Take care all of you. MJ I am here for you too. I understand the fatigue in some ways.. I am a stroke survivor and fatigue is an issue with me also. I used smoking when I was tired or hungry. My MIL is going thru chemo now also. She also had an appointment with an MD who is a Naturopathic Dr. He is giving her some vitamins and supplements to help build her immune system. she sees him about every 2 weeks or so.. I am happy to hear your condition is stable. Wishing you well and sending you HUGS My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/10/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 26 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 442 Amount Saved: $69.62 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 20 Mins: 26 Seconds: 5
