stress and why is my hair falling out

16 years ago 0 70 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
thanks for all your good words! I'm having insurance problems (another stressor) and ran out of thyroid meds last month. I may have found my culprit. I can be a bit self defeating sometimes. Off to find a doc... Grooveywoman, This is not a common among new quitters. Please see your doctor as it may involve your hormone levels. Danielle, Bilingual Health Educator

Morning everyone! Not trying to swim against the current here, but I had the exact opposite happen. My hair loss slowed after my quit. I just figured it was because of the increased blood circulation going to my scalp. As most of you know, I was a very heavy smoker averaging 3-4 pck a day. Maybe that was the reason? Or maybe the difference in sexes along with hormone levels? Unlike eilis59, I'm hoping mine doesn't fix itself and go back to the usual rate of fall-out. I'm kind of liking it! I don't find my hair is falling out more than normal, but it's changing it's consistency BIG time. I have waves where I've never had them before and they won't straighten, even with my straightener. Other areas are flat as a pancake. I'd like to blame the grey hair on not smoking too! Hey Groovey & Eilis, have your thyroid checked. Smoking masks alot of diseases, one being thyroid disease, and if your Thyroid hormone (TSH)is out of whack, hair does fall! Its a bloodtest, so done in a flash, and worth the time! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 366 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,150 Amount Saved: $3,861.30 Life Gained: Days: 48 Hrs: 0 Mins: 55 Seconds: 4

I've had it happen from what I was told by my doc was stress, i'm sorry I've quit smoking so often I can't actually remember if quitting smoking was one of my stressors at the time. it went on for a couple of months but luckily i have thick hair so it wasn't bald patches or anything, just as you say way more hair than usual in the hairbrush and shower. the hairdresser said the same thing as the doctor. it fixed itself when things calmed down. one thing I did was cut my hair very short so that there was no pull on it, give it a better chance of staying in my head. that seemed to work, but as I say that may have been coincidental to my life calming down. sorry can't be of more help elaine My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 61 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,220 Amount Saved: 454.45 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 21 Mins: 8 Seconds: 23

In my life there are lots of stressors and I wont drag on about them but when I started my nonsmoking I began to notice than my hair started to fall out at an alarming rate. My hair brush fills up quickly (every day or two) and I'm wondering if anyone else had this happen?
