Hi Lady and all the other old timers!
I thought I ought to update you all on my life without cigars.
As I lay in the bath the other day, I watched the rise and fall of my tummy! It is a larger tummy than I had before I joined the SSC.......in fact it has been mistaken for the snow covered foothills of the Rockies by very drunk observers! Anyway......
Life without cigars is great! The smallish (tongue firmly in cheek)amount of weight that I have put on is infinately preferable to not being able to breathe properly. I am a lot fitter than I used to be and am about to go for a couple of weeks skiing with the family.
The only problem with the extra poundage is that I go faster down the hills than I used to.......and at my age I am sure that I should be going slower..... There may be a slight braking advantage from the extra width causing additional wind resistance, but I am cool with it all. I am also at peace as I have convinced myself that it is my ski pants that make my backside look huge :8o:
Anyway, not smoking has nothing to do with my droopy bits.....thats all down to gravity!
I have resigned myself to the fact that I am probably not a babe magnet anymore.......but on the upside.....I do get a lot of attention from labradors when I go for a walk......its just the owners that have this scared look!
On a serious note, I honestly cannot see any major disadvantages to stopping smoking.
I might have been a little lighter if I had carried on puffing away.......after all.........what does a lung weigh in at??????????
:8o:

Well if it isn't my favorite Mad Englishman! I don't come here often anymore. What a suprise to see you here. Oh how I miss the days of the ruffled feathers, the dog that peed constantly on Duffis carpet, the Drill Sargeant of tough love (golferman), the wit of N2K, the stories of Ladybugg, the compassionate heart of Hummy, and so many awesome quitters that helped us along the way.
I believe I may miss the Mad Englishman stories the most. Those laugh until you cry stories! It's so good to see you getting so very old! Keep that smoke free candle burning dear Bret and don't forget to write on occassion.
Lady :)

Thanks Mad Englishman, I needed that. I can see how easy it would be to become complacent - and we don't want that. Congratulations on your stop.

Hi Brent! We missed each others time here but I am always still glad to see you check in. At any time any one of us can get complacent, so it is probably good for all members, new and old, to keep their quit in check by just stopping in every once in a while. Good idea. I think I'll do the same. Until next time, be well :)

Hi all you old timers and the newbies (who won't have a clue who I am....lucky devils!).
I had a quick read today of the various threads and it occurred ,to me that I am in danger of forgetting how bl**dy hard it was to stop smoking.
Those who don't know me please note the use of the word "stop" and not "give up"!
Give up what????????
1. Smelling like a landfill site on a hot day.
2. Coughing up lovely hankies full of green and yellow sticky stuff.
3. Having to constantly go to the cashpoint machine to buy more of those tubes with a fire at one end and a fool at the other.
4. Having loved ones turn away at the last minute because you are too revolting to kiss.
5. Going outside in the rain for a furtive drug intake.
6. And I could go on for another six pages at least.......
I struggled at first. I could not stop thinking about smoking as the receptors in the brain screamed for their fix.....I coped with the help of the people on this site.
Now it is easy! I rarely think about it, and if I do it is usually looking at others still smoking and feeling sad for them.
So if you are at the struggling phase, take heart as it gets easy....and that brings me full-circle......I need to remember what it was like and not get complacent.
Bye for now
Mad Englishman
