Quitting this week

Congratulations to you, Kathymeg and Debbie!!Getting through the first "very tough week" is a huge accomplishment. You've both been through the worst of it and this next week will not be so hard on you. Stay alert and aware of the addiction you have threatened. It works in cunning ways around defences... Good morning all, just checking in. I've made it through a week, today being day 7. I'm doing good, not too many cravings and have not had to be attached to the inhaler. The support group here has been a great help and sometimes just reading other's messages gets me through. And to deb48...without "His" help I wouldn't be where I am today! So to everyone on this site I wish you a crave free, smoke free day and many more!! Hello Kathy meg---Yes you can do it! I also quit recently & have spent more time on the SSC than I can believe. It really does help to see that SO many folks have gone through this & have been successful. Ice water, prayers and frequent visits to this site have helped me through 'he**' week. Best wishes---we too CAN do it. Hi Meg, Welcome to the SSC. You have ever right to be nervous about quitting. You have smoked along time. You also have the right to be excited. You are about to do the best thing you can do for yourself. I smoked over 40 year (47)*I don't like to admitt that* and I learned how to quit on this site. It is a learning process. Attitude is key but another key is wanting to. You can do anything you want to. If you really want to quit you will. You don't need the inhaler. It only prolongs getting the nicotine out of you system. Drink lots of water, cleanse your body of nicotine. If you want to suck on something, use a straw. I cut one the length of a cigarette and used it for a while. It also helped to breath deep. I took long puffs on that straw. I begin to notice I was breathing deeper and deeper. The addict in you will do alot of talking so be aware that you are an addict and break the addiction. It has not been easy but it is true that it gets better every day. Good Luck, see ya tomorrow. Hey Kathy, John here, I am not a cheerleader so will not give you the go kath go routine but what I think will help you quit. Throw the inhaler in the trash. It is the worst thing you can use to quit. Maybe the term "Too close to home" will sound familiar. Using a device that you hold like a cigarette and provides you with nicotine as WAY WRONG. You understand the company that makes the inhaler main purpose is to make money, if you quit with their product that is secondary to them. Just be committed, make the decision and then just quit. Use the N. O. P. E. (not one puff ever) method. If you are truly committed you will quit. Three rough days then things get progressively easier. To the left is a workbook and some things to do like writing a list of why you want to quit. This is SOOOOOoo important and you will need to refer to this list when you feel you need to smoke. Can you quit? Of course you can it is only a cigarette and you have the power to control your life.
