Untruths About Quitting

i've failed at quitting so many times i should just give in and accept i'm an incurable smoker. there's no such thing as an incurable addict of any kind. yes some of us have hardships that make it extra tough, but we can still do it e My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 56 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,120 Amount Saved: 417.20 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 9 Mins: 30 Seconds: 45

I've smoked too much for too long. Why worry about quitting now when the damage is already done?! This is a line of crap the little nicodemon liked to use on me so I could keep puffing away. It's BULL! Coming up on 6 months quit for me, and I'm healing more, and feeling better everyday. {Many thanks yet again to the great peeps on here for the support!} GREAT thread Martha!! patrick your post gave me a vivid image of my lungs being 'cured'like a ham (or a kipper) by cigarette smoke, nasty! e My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 56 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,120 Amount Saved: 417.20 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 9 Mins: 24 Seconds: 44

I remember saying "French tobacco is better for you than Virginia because it's cured out in the sun and the other stuff is cured in a smoke house..." I think I must have been confusing the whole deal with Hams... How 'bout, "I'll gain weight if I quit and it will be unattractive". Well, there ain't nothin attractive about sucking on the end of a flaming weed stick every hour and smelling like you rolled around in a toxic ashtray. Yup, there is more of me to love now but I have color in my cheeks, air in my lungs and a smile on my glistening, white teeth - all pretty darned attractive, if I do say so myself ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/5/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 1303 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 26,060 Amount Saved: $5,863.50 Life Gained: Days: 101 Hrs: 14 Mins: 8 Seconds: 27

'Quitting is too hard, I can't do it!' Take a look around you, there's alot of people here who did it! It's only as hard or as easy as you make it! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 361 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,025 Amount Saved: $3,808.55 Life Gained: Days: 47 Hrs: 10 Mins: 17 Seconds: 44

Myth #7: If I quit, I would run out of places to bury the bodies. I'm too impatient & tightly wrapped, I have to smoke in order to behave appropriately in polite company. Not true, I am actuallly far more tolerant, even-tempered & well, sweet (hey, you should have known me before) than I was when I smoked. Good thread, martha! Myth 6: I enjoy smoking. BS!! I did not enjoy smoking, I was addicted. I did not enjoy being an outcast and a stink pit. I did not enjoy spending good money on something that caused me to hack and gasp and become a recluse on my back deck. I did not enjoy that feeling of panic if I could not get my fix. I did not enjoy smoking, in fact, I HATED BEING A SMOKER! I love being a nonsmoker G My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 223 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,690 Amount Saved: $1,070.40 Life Gained: Days: 22 Hrs: 23 Mins: 57 Seconds: 14

Myth 4: I have too much going on in my life right now to quit. I have a very stressful life, 24/7 careiving of a blind parent, a sick husband, kids and bills and that was my excuse. I used to say, "Well, it's either a cigarette or a Valium, so I guess I'll smoke"...and Look how wrong I have proven myself to be! Gosh, I'm proud of ME! :blush:Text My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 39 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 702 Amount Saved: $149.18 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 12 Mins: 18 Seconds: 14
