Tresa, There is a Canadian Commercial in which the woman speaking has not smoked her entire life, but has worked in a smokey atmosphere (waitress) her whole adult life, and she is battling lung cancer. Misty, I don't know where you live but Canada has done all kinds of research into second hand smoke, and it causes a great deal of diseases, which is why smoking is banned pretty much everywhere in Canada. Some places it is even banned outdoors. (City ball parks etc) Now they are banning smoking in vehicles and some cities are even considering banning it in private homes. Hi Tresa! ( :) ) , No I haven't seen those commercials but as we all know they've been telling us for years that second hand smoke is just as bad if not worse than being a smoker (I don't know how that could be!). Anyway, the point is..... smoking can't be good for anyone whether it's the actual smoker or a "secondhander". Smoking Sucks Period! You're great Tresa... take care! This one is bad and the one of the baby on the monitor, coughing and crying, they sure keep us aware of the danger in second hand smoke. MistyMoonlight, The notion behind the commercials are to raise awarness that there is possibility that second hand smoke can be harmful. Lets be thankful that we are no longer smokers! Sylvie, Bilingual Health Educator

We get different adverts here but it's the same theme. There's one just now where a little girl comes into the house where her parents are smokers. I suppose I wasn't as sensitive as I might have been but times have changed now. The awareness of second hand smoke are now so widely known. Doesn't always make a difference though. Yeah, Tresa, saw that one. It creeped me out... I can't believe that I smoked around my son when he was a baby - thinking that if I waved my had around he wouldn't be affected... twisted junkie thinking. Haven't seen this particular one but I get the drift. I don't know why these thoughts are coming to mind but, 30 years ago when I was having my first child not only were there ashtrays in my Doctor's office but in the hospital where I gave birth I was allowed to smoke in my room. Now I'm not making excuses or not accepting personal responsibility for my choices but I am saying that years ago the dangers weren't as well known and blaming ourselves for what we did then just won't help. Just a thought!
