I haven't even tested the strength of my trigger response to alcohol because I don't believe I've ever had a drink without a cigarette. Same with coffee and strong black tea. I tried the strong expresso that I like a few weeks ago and I went positively squirrely and had a day of the most cravings I'd had up to that point in my quit. I'm doing all I can to avoid trigger behaviour - a nice long Munich Weissbier is way up on the top of the list!! Hi peteg...as of your post yesterday, you had NOT SMOKED 200 cigarettes...that's pretty cool, yes? Don't let external forces -- like wine -- control you. You can let that go for now. Read a little Pema Chodron...she has some good stuff on addiction at the Shambala site. Thanks, Marcus, merci. Oddly, unlike precious quits, I find each day more difficult than the last. Now it's Friday and I had some wine to celebrate the weekend, 4 or 5 days, whatever -- HUGE mistake. Thank God I read all that stuff about lower brain and higher brain in the workbook or wherever, so I know what's going on. That stupid wine (which I've avoided, and should have continued to avoid!) is shutting down my quit commitment and telling me I can smoke because I deserve it. Great. So now wine is my enemy too. Anything that shuts down my higher brain is my enemy, regardless of how long we've hung out together. Sure, I'm gonna miss those Friday nights, but not nearly as much as I'd miss the real, smoke-free me. I am so NOT going back. Gonna miss the wine, maybe a lot. Bring on the green tea. pete My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/25/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 4 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 200 Amount Saved: $22.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 21 Mins: 31 Seconds: 21

Well done, Pete - love the attitude. As Patrick pointed out, I'm not really a Frenchman; I've just played one (badly) since I exiled myself to this dump in 1980. You'll keep us posted on the rest of your hell week, won't you? Thanks! Merci, Llama du jour (?) Well pride goeth before a fall, does it not?? Woke up wide awake at 3:30 this morning with my mouth and throat feeling like stone and all of my airways blocked. I figured it was my body kicking me around for all the abuse I've heaped on it, THEN discovered when I finally got up that I forgot to remove the nicotine patch. (DUH!) Won't be making THAT mistake again any time soon! Thanks again for the good words... peteg My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/25/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 50 Amount Saved: $5.50 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 8 Mins: 18 Seconds: 43

Hey Peteg, I hope all is still well. So glad to see you made it thru day 1. I am so very tired of being a slave to nicotine. It even determined when I got out of bed. If I was planning on not smoking it was hard to get up. Or remembering that I had smokes I couldn't wait to get up and put all that poison in my body. This is a heck of a journey, but it is well worth it. Hang in there. We can do this!
