I can't handle this

I hit rock bottom, I lit a butt in my garden and had a drag from it. Not a proud moment. I'm disgusted and there's a little voice saying, well, you blew it, might as well just smoke. Where to go from here? Hi ICL Yes, hell week does have to suck that much, otherwise we would have to give it a different name. it sucked BIG time for me, HUGE. I had the screaming inside me for that cigarette, looking at butts on the street and public ashtrays, all the lovely thought that go thru your head as to how far you will go to get that cigarette. Each second that passes, you will get stronger cause you made it thru the last sucky second. I did a lot of sleeping (trying to make it go away) and a ton of posting here. I cleaned my house and then i cleaned my house and then i cleaned my house! Just tried to stay as busy as physically possible and cut down my coffee consumption to just one in the morning, at work, in the office, where i couldn't have that morning cigarette. Just had to change the routine for the first week or two. Keep on coming here for the support you need, you can never come here enough to rant, rave and scream, people here have been there and understand! ICL, This is part of an old post by an awesome quitter named Duffis. By the time you read through it all the craving will have passed and you will be left with some really positive thoughts! Hang in there ... one minute at a time. Faith
I WILL NEVER TAKE ANOTHER DRAG!!!!! Giving into a craving is for weak people and I am not a weak person. I refuse to be a slave to addiction. Visualize and repeat your top 3 reasons for quitting. Watch 1 minute go by and remember that 10 people died from smoking in that minute one of those could be you if you smoke that cigarette Write down and repeat to your self the names of the people you will hurt if you start smoking again. Look up and write down and repeat the definition of Nicotine Write down and repeat the names of any people you know who have died or are likely to die from smoking Look up and repeat all of the deadly chemicals in a cigarette Inhale as deeply as you can and hold your breath for a few seconds, with out exhaling take another breath, repeat. Those last two breaths are what if feels like to have emphysema one of the leading diseases associated with smoking. Plan your next milestone reward Write in or read your journal remember how tough those first few days are, dont make your self go through that again. Write down what you will do with a 15 extra years on your life. Tell your self is a great achievement for me to have come this far, I will not undo it because I cannot deal with 3 minutes of anxiety. I will let go of things I cannot control. I am healthy, vital, and strong. There is nothing in the world I cannot handle. All my needs are met. I am completely and utterly safe. Every day in every way I am getting stronger I do not need cigarettes I am a non-smoker I am simply creating new habits which do not include smoking. It's better to be an ex-smoker with an occasional desire to smoke, than a smoker with a constant desire to stop. I DON'T SMOKE! This craving will pass whether I smoke or not. Someday I'll find it hard to believe that I ever smoked. I'm a puff away from a pack a day. "TO QUIT QUITTING" is not an option. "JUST ONE" is not an option. I will confront my cravings head on and win every time, this craving cannot kill me, make me bleed, hurt my family, or last for more than a few minutes. I am proud of ME!" Confidence is the RESULT of accomplishment "Not One, Not now, Not ever" Duffis
My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/23/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 57 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,425 Amount Saved: $684.00 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 13 Mins: 24 Seconds: 43

Hey, I'd be glad to share the happy dance with you! All you have to do is go into your favorite room and dance without care and sing at the top of your lungs "I'm a non smoker" over and over. It really is fun! And it feels good. LOL :) Terry My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/17/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 1 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 10 Amount Saved: $1.50 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 4 Mins: 43 Seconds: 22

Hi I Choose Life! If I can do it, so can you. I am in the middle of my second day and I plan to go further with it. Try to remember what it's like continuing to smoke. You might want one right now, but after that then you are going to remember real quickly the trouble breathing and the stinkyness and having to duck out all the time to smoke. Don't smoke, Don't smoke, Don't smoke! This too shall pass! ICL, it DOES have to suck this much but at the end of the suck-age, you will be free. You will be free and it will be worth it. We will be so proud of you but you will be prouder. I agree with bj - time to knock the demon's head off. Stop letting him in your head and get tough! x T My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 413 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,499 Amount Saved: 2,271.50 Life Gained: Days: 35 Hrs: 4 Mins: 51 Seconds: 52

Do you remember the story about the Little Engine who Could? If you think you CAN, you WILL! Hold on tight and don't give in. That straw will help a lot. Suck on some hard candy. Do some deep breathing. I'm cheering for you. I'm not tired, hungry or bored. I just have a longing screaming tgrough my head and body for a cigarette. This is hell, yeah, I know its hell week but really, does it have to suck this much? Honestly guys, I really want a cigarette. I'm even toying with the idea of a late night pharmacy to get the nicotine inhaler!!! But first, I'll try a straw! this is what helped me when i thought i was experiencing an agonizing scream through my wholebody: where exactly does it hurt, how much exactly does it hurt. i'd scan my body and notice: tension in my chest; an anxiety pang in my heart; a void or hungry feeling. how much does it hurt? a little. but not as much as a toothache or even a foot blister. it's not unbearable, we're all bearing it at least some of the time. it's a discomfort. i'm prepared to accept some discomfort in order not to fear an agonizing death from emphysema or cancer. and it passes, at this stage i don't have cravings, more 'strong thoughts' - here's allen carrs book: http://www.opposingdigits.com/ebooks/Easy.Way.To.Stop.Smoking.pdf
