it's also common knowledge that addiction is transferable. In other words quit one and you'll probable pick up another one.I guess the only decision you'll have to make is whether it's going to be "a good one or a bad one"
I believe that. I've become addicted to homemade iceblocks. You know the ones you make from those little plastic moulds - my freezer is full of them. I just can't stop myself + Mrs kiwi thinks i'm going loopy. oh well at least it's not bad for you.... yet. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Very thought-provoking, bear. Before I started smoking, I had no desire or need to smoke. I really didn't give it a thought. I even remember being put off by smokers. The day, whether it was peer pressure or curiosity, that I put a lit cigarette to my mouth was the day I made myself vulnerable to the dangers of smoking - the terrible addiction, the health problems and the idea that I could not quit. I don't think I was predisposed to smoking. To put it bluntly, I was stupid and didn't think that I would ever become a slave to tobacco! Boy was I wrong! Now I will always be an addict and must continually guard against junkie thinking and the "just one won't hurt" mentality. I'm a nicotine addict and will always be a nicotine addict -- the end result of a bad decision! How true, bear. That was one of my good excuses to smoke- and not to quit. And one of my great worries when I decided to quit anyway. Smoking was, for me, a psychological crutch and a transfer from one addiction to another- and I didn't want to to back to old, even worse (?) addictions- or find a new one. But seems that I'm strong: addiction free now!!!!! Thanks Bear... good reminder... God knows, I've been addicted to a whole host of drugs and nicotine is the most insidious one I've lived with for way too long... Thanks for this post Bear. Once again you've made us think & be mindful of this battle. I believe that Addiction is an illness. There are chemical differences in our brains verses those without addictions. And I also believe that like many other illnesses, it is often genetic in origin. The bottom line is - addiction is a disease (not a choice, personal weakness, character defect, etc). And, it's a really tough disease to fight. And, we're fighting it! I was going to post a limrick but then I would probably get censored and be in trouble again so I decided to do a little review instead :). Addiction- A recurring compulsion by an individual to engage in some specific activity despite harmful conseqences to the individuals health, mental state or social life. Now science is divided on the cause of addiction one side says it's hereditary the other says it's an illness. It's also common knowledge that addiction is transferable. In other words quit one and you'll probable pick up another one.I guess the only decision you'll have to make is whether it's going to be "a good one or a bad one" At this stage there is no cure for addiction so we are more or less left to our own devises to handle it but I'm sure those money grubbing profit making drug companys will come up with a pill we can all take and live happily ever after. ;p Any how my intention here was to reaquaint you with this little problem we have here it's called addiction and smoking is a major one. Have a nice day. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/20/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 324 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,832 Amount Saved: $3,240.00 Life Gained: Days: 78 Hrs: 19 Mins: 19 Seconds: 26
