Junkie Jitters

Hope you are surviving okay. An interview can be a very stressful thing and it is fair game for that junkie to sweet talk, like you said.Stay Strong!! Remember - No one wants to hire some one that smells like an ashtray, especially now a days when smoking is soooo frowned upon. A cigarette won't help you get the job any easier, it will actually hurt your chances according to studies. By not giving in you will gain so much strength from this experience. We are here to give you the support that you need - just don't give in! I don't know if this will help you, Penguin, but one thing that became clear to me early on was that I was going to deal with craving as I encountered everything that I'd ever associated with smoking... until I'd replaced all the old associations with new associations. I'd dealt with most of those associations with-in the first 6 or 7 months... at least to the point where I knew they had no real power over me anymore. But, for example, I was blind-sided by some strong cravings over this last Christmas... and the association was smoking and Christmas Shopping. I ended up sitting in my vehicle after fighting through the crowds one afternoon... and out of nowhere...craving. Really strong craving! (I think I wanted to 'unwind' from the emotional turmoil of shopping) It didn't last long, but I actually had to have a talk with myself about it. And I thought I was past that. So, we just have to accept the process of quitting on its terms, take it as it comes and respond according to what we know... not what we feel. The positive feelings will come, but in some areas it may take a little longer. Anyway, you've done great to bring this here. You're living in the solution. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/6/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 326 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,150 Amount Saved: $3,015.50 Life Gained: Days: 53 Hrs: 5 Mins: 29 Seconds: 8

Oh Penguin.... first of all, congrats on an interview, let us know how it goes! Hopefully you won't walk in looking all hot and stinkin'. You know that the crave monster is probably giving you one last attempt to get you back. You know that if you say no to this one, you will come out on the other side way stronger than ever. Don't buy any smokes today, or tomorrow. Take this one day at a time. You are a pro at putting off urges to smoke, or else you wouldn't have come this far. Buy them on Monday if you want to blow a 200 day quit. I bet you will have a change of heart by then! Could it be a milestone crave? Almost 200 days behind you now, Penguin. That's awesome! And, smelling like smoke isn't going to help you out one bit in a job interview. Unless, stinky employee is the impression you want to leave them with. :) Hang in there, Penguin and if you feel like you shouldn't leave the house, DON'T. Pull out those old tools and work it like it was day three. You don't smoke anymore, Pen. :) :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 154 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,620 Amount Saved: $900.90 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 23 Mins: 2 Seconds: 6

As this is the place to get support when you are afraid of slipping, I'm posting in here. Very tough today, and I have my very big stick out, trying to beat the junkie back. I'm being sweet talked and it has come close...too close. If I go out again today, I don't know that I'll make it back without buying smokes. What's it about? It's about anxiety about an upcoming job interview this week. My confidence is up and down and the junkie is slipping in there with a big sign that says....I CAN HELP! It is very tempting. Taking a lot of big, big breathes. Doing lots of self talk. Needing help and support today.
