Kev, Hang in there, you must remind yourself of all the reasons why you quit in the first place. You should also keep in mind all the great benefits that you will experience being a non-smoker! Keep up the great work! Sylvie, Bilingual Health Educator

Kev, I don't really think that your Mum wants you to go back to smoking, and I don't think you do either. Was your Mum having a bad day, and snapped at you? Sometimes that happens - someone loses their temper and whoever is in "the line of fire" gets it. I am so glad you came here and posted. It's good to have a place to come and vent. I am sorry it is still so hard for you. You are not alone - there are many of us who have plodded on crisis by crisis, whilst others did not seem to be having such a hard time. I think that's life. I hope today is better for you. Hi Kev :) You know everyone here is right. I don't have to tell you again. I agree with bear that you might want to consider talking to someone professional about your struggles. It really is sounding more and more like depression and I've noticed that since you stopped posting about your walks that you seem less "up" than previously. That tells me that exercise has a big effect on your mood also suggesting the possibility of depression. One more thing...and I have probably said this before as I have thought it before... You continue to speak of your quit as something temporary. Why do you do that to yourself? It can and will be permanent if you think of it as such. Hugs to you Kev! {{{Kevin}}} I promise not to smoke today with my friend Kevin. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/25/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 164 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,920 Amount Saved: $959.40 Life Gained: Days: 14 Hrs: 19 Mins: 21 Seconds: 21

Kev: Thankyou so much for sharing with us the pressures and turmoil you are feeling. That was exactly the right thing to do. As I read through the responses I saw a lot of caring people who are offering you excellent advice. I don't think that going back to smoking is a good choice for you. Many of us smoked to self medicate for any number of problems, including depression, coping with anxiety, lonleyness, fatigue, stress, procrastination, etc. Are you using any NRT's, and if not, they may help you get over this hurdle. At least then you will not also be inhaling all the associatied junk in tobacco. It may be a useful tool to keep you going until you can seek some professional guidance. I am not suggesting for one minute that you are mentally ill, but quitting smoking changes one's life and perspective, and you could perhaps use some help in navigating this new life. I'm pulling for you. Kev, lucky for you that this is your quit mate, no one elses, not your Mum's or your Dads. You know what that means right? They can't take it away. Your quit belongs to you. Tuck it some where very safe, protect it well, be vigilant. Good for you for telling us about this potential sabotage, I think you need some additional armor of scented baths, new music, and exercise and perhaps some motivational reading. Did you ever read that quit book they talk about here? Chin up mate, put on those big girl panties er um, okay perhaps not, er man up, tell your Mum, not bloody likely will you hurt your quit, and march off in a proper huff. (you can buy her some Cadbury's for Valentines or something later). What I love love love about your post is that you defended your quit and did not listen. I keep telling you Kev, you quit already, all this stuff is just noise. Proud of you Mate but not very happy with Mum xoxoxo Sue My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/3/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 277 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,770 Amount Saved: $484.75 Life Gained: Days: 27 Hrs: 1 Mins: 39 Seconds: 6

Hey Kev, Hang tough now and, as the long-timers say, smoking won't solve anything and you'll feel like crap mentally and physically after just one smoke. What about going to a gym if only to drink juice at the "bar" and just wallow in the non-smoking-world of fit people and those who are struggling to get fit?? If I had good feet, ankles and knees I'd go hiking again as I felt like a superman when I was your age with all the trekking up and down hill and dale... stay in SSC as much as you can until the cravings have subsided patrick My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/18/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 17 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 425 Amount Saved: $191.25 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 6 Mins: 19 Seconds: 46
