New and Nervous

Hey fellow non smoker! Today is my first day so I feel you on being nervous, smoking is, sadly, a part of who I am...sorry...who I was and it will be for you too. I have found that the encouragement all these wonerful people have given me so far has gotten me through my "smoke break" at work as well as my lunch...both smoke free....you have to always remember it's for the greater good and when the hard part is over you will be a better person for it and you will beleive in urself so much more as well as be proud of urself. Just take it one day at a time...heck one hour at a time if that's what will work for you. Take care and stay strong Smokerella

Well said, nonic!!!! I agree wholeheartedly with you, my friend. Fear shouldn't be the sole reason for quitting (although, it's there) - the realization that I have been given the opportunity to defeat this terrible addiction puts my quit in a more positive light! I love your statement, "Cigarettes need you, you do not need cigarettes." How true and thanks to people like you, smoking is no longer an option for me! Hey Susie One way to look at this, is to say to yourself, "how great is it that I get the opportunity to quit"...I have sat at the bed side of a number of people who have told me that they wished they had the opportunity to quit. I am not big on quitting out of fear, or of doing anything that is fear motivated. However, I am big on appreciation. And I will tell you this, I recognize the break I am cutting myself by having the opportunity to quit. You can cut yourself a big break as well by standing up to the addiction and realizing that you don't need to smoke and you never have. Cigarettes need you, you do not need cigarettes. So get that courage thing going and do the best thing that you can for your own personal health. Its a decision you will never regret. How many times do we get to make a decision that will never be tainted by regret... Hi Susie! Congrats on deciding to quit. As everyone said, being nervous is normal but the more you prepare and learn the more excited you'll become. It's like planning a trip to a foreign country - it may seem overwhelming at first but as you learn more about it, you can imagine yourself there and having a good time! If you haven't yet, check out the Road to Success workbook under the "Tools and Resources" tab then click on "Workbook" on the left hand side. To download the Road to Success Workbook: 1) After clicking the "Workbook" link a dialogue box similar to the one below will open. Click on the "Open" button on the left. 2) Another window should open that will show the "Road to Success" workbook as a red, PDF file similar to the one below. If you double click the icon, (and click "Open" if necessary) and the workbook should open and you can then save it to your own computer. This workbook has SUCH great information and was an enormous help in getting me started. It is worth the extra steps of downloading it. We all got to where we are one cigarette at a time and so will you!
