hi all. thanx for all your replies. it does feel like sensitivity. you really don't realise what smoking does to the body!! tina My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/2/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 15 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 300 Amount Saved: 60.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 6 Mins: 19 Seconds: 59

Another tooth pain / mouth sore victim here. I used patches, and my mouth felt like I chewed on razor blades for a few days. Not purty. Drink loads of water to keep your mouth and gums from drying out and clear the impurities out of your system quicker! If all else fails, chocolate ice cream will at least make you forget you had any problem at all ;) x T My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 380 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,740 Amount Saved: 2,090.00 Life Gained: Days: 32 Hrs: 9 Mins: 25 Seconds: 37

Tubbies, yes the teeth thing does hurt but it does get better. Vitamin C actually helped me with the pain! Smoking is officially one of the worst possible things you can do to your teeth and gums, and unfortunately no one ever tells you that...probably because as smokers we didn't believe it! It will get better! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 317 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,925 Amount Saved: $3,344.35 Life Gained: Days: 41 Hrs: 15 Mins: 50 Seconds: 59

Tubbies, my teeth hurt some in the beginning too. I think I also got little sores in my mouth. Hang in there! As soon as one withdrawl symptom goes away another pops up! Rejoice! You are healing!!! Tubbies, Some good advice from the members! Are you using any quit aids? One of the side effects of gum and lozenges are sore teeth. We suggest going to see your dentist for a good cleaning and some more suggestions. Brenna, Bilingual Health Educator

I believe the extra oxygen has something to do with it too... I also suffer from sensitive teeth. I wrote a post about it when I quit last year. You should be able to search "sensitive teeth" or "sore gums" and find others. You also may need to use a flouride rinse. Of course, there is also your dentist, if it does not get better. Good luck, and remember, your mouth is healing itself from years of poisonous chemicals. Believe it or not, the smoke helps to provide a protective coating around the gums and base of the teeth. When we quit, the gums and teeth become exposed and susceptible to irritants like hot, cold, sweet, etcetera. It will right itself in time but for now, sensodyne toothpaste may be in order. My teeth were sore the first week. I assumed it was from chewing so much gum but I could be wrong.
