Introduction - Week 3

Hi Laura, and yes to your question. That was and still is at times the biggest hurdle for me. It seems to come from nowhere and wants to make itself at home for a while. I have even named it "it". I don't have any magic answer but do know that many have gone through these periods well in to their quits. But look at how many have made it through. I think that beating this addiction can be a bit tricky at times, to put it mildly. I, too have tried in the past but always "cheated" my way back in to full blown smoking again. Let's make this the one that counts. I am not too far away from you on the stats. Please feel free to stay in touch. I'll keep a watch out for ya. LLP, You've heard it from the member, this is a totally normal sensation! This is the time to put to use your coping skills. Hi Laura. You are by far not alone in your thinking. Like the others said, find things to occupy your mind. Quitting takes time and unfortunately, we don't get "over" smoking in just a couple of days. Take some really deep breaths and just make it through today. Each craving you make it through makes you that much stronger. There will come a time when you don't think of smoking but in the beginning it seems that the thoughts consume your mind. Move forward. You are doing great! Welcome to SSC, Laura! You should be VERY proud of being three weeks smoke free! That is a WONDERFUL accomplishment. Make sure you are rewarding yourself regularly. This WILL help you very much along this journey. As far as having difficult periods, this is completely normal. The only thing that will make this better is time. I promise, it does get much better very quickly. Another thing that might help you is a hobby of some sort. I started working on a cross stitch project. It really helped to keep my focus on something other that smoking. It also kept my hands very busy! Just hold on tight and don't give in. You're doing great! WooHoo Laura! You made it through hell, and heck week by yourself! Thatis quite an accomplishment in it's own right. Yes, I know that I think about smoking most of the time. The idea is to find something else to fill the void. For me, it's been peanuts. For others, chewing on straws, gum etc. The thing is, don't smoke. You're on the path to success. Stay with the SSC, and post often. Everyone here wants to see another successful quit. Laura let me assure you there are lots of people that go through the process of thinking about smoking after we quit it's one of the things we have to learn to overcome. My advise ,find ways of taking your mind of smoking , distract yourself eventually the brain will forget about smoking but it takes time so be patient it'll come. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/20/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 288 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,184 Amount Saved: $2,880.00 Life Gained: Days: 70 Hrs: 2 Mins: 1 Seconds: 57

My name is Laura. Though I've browsed the discussion links over the past few weeks, I've not posted previously. I smoked for nearly 20 years with many previous quit attempts. I am now in my 1st day past week 3. I have not previously made it this far without "cheating". I had finally stopped dwelling on each instance I was now without a cigarette when ,for whatever reason, I suddenly feel like I'm struggling all over again. I have thought about them nearly all morning after days of not having thought of them once. Has anyone else experienced this?
