Introduction - Week 3

I am doing well. Thanks for asking!! I think I just got a little over-confident & the urge took me by surprise. I'm better know. Back on track without a slip & optimistic about this quit being the final one. :) Quote of the Day: Once you begin to believe there is help "out there," you will know it to be true. - Saint Bartholomew My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/11/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 29 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,160 Amount Saved: $261.00 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 10 Mins: 56 Seconds: 26

Thank you all for your responses & support. It was very reassuring. I am feeling much better about my quit today. My first week was a real struggle for me but it had been fairly manageable since. I think that I became overly-confident and took for granted that the biggest challenges were behind me so the magnitude of yesterday's crave attack just caught me off guard. Yes, with your help, I did overcome it. Thanks for reposting the "Embracing the Void" post. I found it very encouraging. I commend the original poster for sharing. I am not using any nicotine replacement, but I am using non-nicotine Chantix. I'm not sure I would have sustained the first week otherwise. Hi Laura Those three weeks look good on you! In case you haven't found it, here is the Embracing the Void thread. I can't add much to what the others have said (such a great group of quitters!) but sometimes after the physical weirdness of the first couple weeks becomes manageable, the emotional stuff comes to the surface. Nothing unusual but it's like the road took a turn and now you have different scenery. I'm glad you posted and introduced yourself. Now we can celebrate with you when you hit one month! ;) All the best My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/5/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 1245 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 24,900 Amount Saved: $5,602.50 Life Gained: Days: 97 Hrs: 1 Mins: 33 Seconds: 13

I call those the "sneak attack" craves - just take this healing process one day at a time. We all heal differently and have weird feelings at different times. Each time you make it through a funk you end up stronger. Defy the addiction - it keeps trying to get you back but don't let it get you. Eventually it will quit! Hi Laura Welcome and congratulations on your quit!! At times I will crave when I first get up especially if I have a smoking dream or get my cuban temper up, but don't cave in!! Not even one puff. Your doing so well on your own and the feeling will pass. I give you alot of credit and admire your strenght. It will get easier. Do whatever it takes to distract the thoughts like shopping (my all time favorite) reading, go out for lunch, anything that doesn't involve smoking. Remember this is the addiction we are fighting against and it can be done. Hang in there!! Are you using any kind of nicotine replacement? Don't hesitate to ask for help and before you smoke come here post and wait for at least 7 replies. By then the urge will pass. I guess you see that it happens to most of us. Are you rewarding yourself for accomplishing this? I think it' simportant to do that because it stimulates the dopamine neurotransmitters, the "feel good" brain chemicals, that nicotine used to. You're doing great. Just remember, if you smoke you will crave again in 20 minutes...and on and on. Just keep not smoking and the urges will go away. Honest. Are you, or were you, using any nicotine replacement aids?
